Here's a quick update. The Ciclòn really hasn't changed all that much, but there's a few bits and bobs that's been added or replaced. I'm gonna get another set of Big Betty Gooey Glueys, btw, because the Rampage SC's are great in all ways but one. They lack the BB's volume.

Awesome. I bet you are digging the longer fork on there.

Tires don't match spec by the way

I cannot believe you hit the 35# mark...man, my build is pretty similar, save those damn steel coils on both ends!

Nice T'Moto, el saltamontes. What can you say about 180/140 talas? 180 decreases so much agility? Thanks!

    El Bastardo 20"

I bought the frame with a lousy older model RS Monarch and rode it last fall several times with the RP23 borrowed from my Ellsworth Truth. Considering that the Truth used about 70 PSI and the El Bastardo used around 180, I'm not surprised the RP23 didn't feel right on the Ventana with the Ellsworth valving. So I sprung for an Elka, as their factory is about 2 hrs away from me, but it arrived too late to really ride on the trails. It felt great riding around town on the test run so I'm anxious for spring to come. One of the most pronounced differences with the Elka is the bike rides with less sag yet more plush. Initially, it feels better being a little higher and the pedal clearance in tight sections will be extremely welcome. And with a coil you can adjust the preload independently of the spring rate - so I believe ride height can be tuned somewhat, something that's underrated IMO.

My only problem so far has been with my rear wheel. I don't trust Velocity at all, and my Sun is bent beyond trueability, seemingly at the joint. I'm probably going to get a hub with larger flange and less dish, such as the Shimano FH-M529 or similar, and a Stans Flow (when they come out in 650b). I wish I could get a 650b version of a Mavic 721 disc, but that's never going to happen. Hopefully the Flow is strong enough.

Future plans (no rush) include a lighter tire option such as the 2.2 WTB Wolverines or 2.25 Racing Ralphs, a mid-cage rear derailleur, and testing of different cockpit geometry (saddle fore/aft, bar sweep/stem length, rotating bar forward/backward).

The stem is at the final height but I don't want to cut the steerer down because it is actually a 26"-wheel fork, and should I go back to 26" wheels, it would warrant moving the stem up the steerer a half inch.

    Frame: 09 El Bastardo, 20" with 5.51 rockers (white/silver)
Shock: Late 2010 Elka Stage 5 - Tuned for AM/El Bastardo/195 lb rider

Saddle: SDG Bel Air RL (snow camo)

    super nice bike!

although i recommend the 2.5 maxxis tires hence they turn out to be really narrow (2.5 maxxis equals 2.35 schwalbe...) i'm running a 2.5 dhf 42 up front and it's a perfect match for the 2.35 dualply in the rear...

    Build Concepts:

    1. Wanted mostly U.S. made parts

    What's a dinglespeed? I run gears, so I don't quite get it.
Good point. Need to find some Gators decals, preferably for the fork.

Dinglespeed is a 2x2 setup. Manually move the chain from front to back to go from road gearing to dirt gearing.

I bought this Terremoto a few years back, and just recently got back into riding (after nearly 2 years off the bike). Here it is with a couple new additions (I swapped the DHX coil for a Monarch RT3 and swapped the old chainguide out for an E13 LG-1 Trail):

Nice, but ¿you don't make long climbs, not you?

It's surprising for me to see a DH chainguide with an air shock! ¿Monarch is standard or pushed? i had a RP23 Boostvalve on my Terremoto and it was a **** (I sold it). Actually, I'm usin a CCDB with a Lyrik 170 DH coil

Apology for the 650b forum re-run...

    El Bastardo – RP-23, semi-custom; 19" ST/22.5"TT, Grinch Green

    White Brothers Loop @ 150mm, 15mm TA
    Crane Creek 100 headset
    Truvative Stylo T30 stem
Race Face SIXC carbon bar/Ergon GA1 grips

    Rase Black Mamba 9" dropper
    WTB Pure V ti

Brakes: XTR Trail (new XTR Ice 185 rotors and XTR composite pads since photo)
    Shifters: SRAM X0
    Crank: XTR FC-M980
    F der: XTR
R der: SRAM XX long cage
    Cassette: SRAM XG 1099 11-36
    Canfield Crampons

    ZTR Flow/DTS 240
    Pacenti NeoMoto set up tubeless

I jumped through a couple hoops (fork, brakes) before arriving at this build, and I think it's a wrap. May dial back the fork to 140mm. Thought I'd ditch the big ring for a guard/guide, but liking it so far and little problem dropping chain.

I can honestly say I've never had more fun going down a trail than on the GreenBeast. Thanks to ed.rides.bikes for the nice price on the used frame.

I'm guessing the setback is 1–1.25 inches (bike's not where I am). I really like certain aspects of the post; all mechanical, stops every 1/2 inch through the range, huge range, can lift bike by seat, trigger takes little effort to activate. My beefs so far: Spring tension could be stronger. It's a little fussy with wanting to be clean and lubed, which the weak-ish spring exacerbates. The adhesive pad on one of the housing guides tore away from the plastic guide, need to fix or get replacement. With all said, the range alone makes it a great pick for trail/AM use, and of course 27.2 availability is a big factor. You do need lots of straight seat tube to run it. It ran neck-and-neck with my Spesh Blacklite (diff bike) until it started getting fussy. Now I'm hedging toward the Blacklite, which works super positively even with a large packed seat bag. The Rase makes me want more range in my BL, though. Guess the ultimate post (for me) still doesn't exist...

    Cheers,

    Mike

My old ventana Pantera will die in a marvelous singletrack. If I could buy a Ventana with elevated chainstays, I'll put it at home like an sculpture. But I'll NEVER use it like a wallmart's bike

I was running a 100mm stem, but after seeing what a lot of others have been saying about the merits of a short stem, I decided to try out the 50mm and I'm liking it a lot. I thought the cockpit would feel really cramped, but it actually feels better on the climbs. I ditched the XC wheels for the 521s. The bike feels much more confident now and downhills are much more fun. There is a weight penalty, but after switching to the shorter stem, it seems the new body position actually is enhanced and I'm still able to put down power to the pedals. Well, I think after 6 months of tinkering...it's fianlly complete. Now...................gotta ride more!

Still Stoked on My El Ciclon!

Two months later, added the following:

--Gravity Dropper (Turbo Model), dropped some grams, replaced the GD "Classic" model
--Got the Fox 32 Talas CTD PUSHED (Factory rebuild, Big Hit re-valving, and TALAS to Float Conversion set at 150mm).
    --AEST Platform Pedals (280 grams)

When I bought the used 2013 Fox 32 TALAS, it had zero movement in the initial stroke, no small bump compliance. After the PUSH re-build, HUGE difference, it was pricey, but worth it in my book.

Totally stoked with this bike (now at 29 lbs), and with the dialed in suspension the bike just went to another level! Now if you all will excuse me, Im going riding!
