I'm trying this setup now with an inverted 10 degree stem. I've been tryng to find something that I feel comfortable with. The 5 1/2 steerer tube has a been a strange transition for me from my previous frame. I feel like I can finally climb with some strength now with this setup. I am hoping to go back to the 0 degree stem in a few months...

I am 6' 2". The bike is approximately 27 lbs. I am using a home scale so there is some room for error with that number...

    Good eyes, thats exactly it.

I was a little suprised when i weighed it, i thought it might be in the 29lb range. I used a an analog type scale at the LBS. Now, If only i could buy parts to make ME 20-30 lbs lighter. TThat would be sweet!

I really can't go so far as to cover cables and skewers etc. except I do have to say I love my ODI grips.

Upgrades? I will say this thing is built up a bit brutish to withstand my 250+ lbs. If ever I should slim down I might think about lightening her up some. I-9, XTR, etc.

the semi custom part means that tubes from 2 sizes are used, like a seat tube of the 19" frame with a top tube of the 21"

the jig part means that is was built on the XX welding jig, so the bike has the same geometry as XX model.

Just bought my first Ventana used. I just found out it is actually a "Dreamride Fully" after calling Venana with the serial number. So far it rides very nice, climbs like a much lighter bike. Anybody know anything more about the Dreamride Fully?

    Nice!

El Toro es muy bueno. How does it ride over rocky decents? I'm trying to decide whether to go with a steel SS frame or aluminum.

It handles well enough over rocky descents in its current form. It would handle rocky descents better with heavier wheels, wider tires, less air pressure, and a highly-skilled rider. Though I'm not sure my idea of "rocky" is the same as yours.

Steel Vs. aluminum? I have no problem with either material. The info in these links may help you in your quest...

    Dazed,

I just got a Ciclon and I suspect our riding styles may be similar based on your set-up. I went with Avid Juicy's with 7" rotors bolted on to Hope Pro II hubs with a bolt-on axle. I find on harsher DH runs where I'm braking a lot, the left (disc-side) hub bolt comes loose. I'm wondering if the brake is a little much? They feel ridiculously strong. Since your brakes probably have more juice than mine, I wonder if you've had the same experience?

BTW - most versatile bike I've ever owned, ridiculously well-built (so far), and does what it says (hold a line, pedal up, bomb down. . )

    El Salt enduro weapon

I have refined this build over the last 4 years. This is my second el salt frame. It is perfect for enduros with 4 inches front and back, reasonably light, and stiff. Geometry is relaxed enough to allow for the odd lapse in concentration and occasional cack handed riding.
Excellent bike. What more can you say, the frame builders frame (not that I build frames)

Had since June/July, many many miles since as my go to bike. It is a 5" bike designed for the 650b wheel that just came out, called the El Bastardo. PSherwood & crew built about 60 frames earlier this year, I believe they are still in stock. Purchased from www.UintaBicycles.com. I literally have no complaints what so ever. It is an awesome XC and AM machine. Full writeup here: The Bastard is born (review of the Bastardo)

I find on harsher DH runs where I'm braking a lot, the left (disc-side) hub bolt comes loose. I'm wondering if the brake is a little much? They feel ridiculously strong. Since your brakes probably have more juice than mine, I wonder if you've had the same experience?

BTW - most versatile bike I've ever owned, ridiculously well-built (so far), and does what it says (hold a line, pedal up, bomb down. . )
How's this for response time? ;-)

I haven't had any problems like that, and I don't believe braking forces could cause that. When braking, the momentum tries to push the rear wheel backwards, and that shouldn't cause the axle bolt to loosen as far as I can understand.

That is a good response time!

Agreed about the braking forces per se. I do think the metal pads may have had something to do with it, though. I put a lock washer on the axle and the nut stopped coming loose. However, the bike would squeal and vibrate under rear braking. I went to the shop and the wisened Krispy suggested I switch to organic pads. . . and all these issues disappeared after that. Something about that particular Avid brake and pad combo, I guess.

Thanks. So far I really like the WB fork, it's a lot stiffer than my old Fox and pretty simple to adjust.

I haven't taken the plunge on the HS yet, but the shop recommended I get the mounting bracket done by Ventana now in case I decide to go that direction.

Ventana is super flexible at doing things like this. They'll even mount a cable guide on the down tube so you don't have to zip-tie it. We've had the ISCG tabs added to all of the special order frames that we've gotten recently - it is a minor cost when going with a new frame, and a nice option for the future, even if you're not yet ready for HS.

That bike is gorgeous. I can't stop looking at it. I just bought a black 08 El Ciclon, even though I really shouldn't have. But who could resist? I just finished getting all the parts for my new Intense Spider 2, but am now considering throwing them on the Ventana. Hmmmm. Decisions, decsions.

    My New Godfather

That custom El Toro looks sweet UnFluidOne! Here are some photos of my 1st Ventana, I'm very impressed with the ride quality so far. Since this was my 1st 29er, I was expecting some diminished handling, but this bike rails through the tight and twisty's. Overall, this is the best bike I've owned.

    Frame: El Padrino
Fork: Reba Race 100mm (Thinking about changing to 80mm when I do the 1st service)
Wheelset: DT Swiss TK 7.1, WTB Laserdisc
Drivetrain: XT cranks & BB, Sram PG990
    Pedals: Eggbeater Ti
    Derailleurs: X0 rear, XT front
    Shifters: X0
Brakes: Elixir CR (Best I've ever used, btw)
    Saddle: WTB Rocket V Stealth
Seatpost: CC Thudbuster (Please don't arrest me fashion police, I've had some serious lumbar problems over the years)
    Stem: Thomson X4
Headset: CK (Wish I would've read up on the Cane Creek 110 beforehand, tho)
    Bars: FSA XC190
Grips: Ergon (Took a little getting used to on downhills, but just fine now)
