Basically an XC build for a Clyde. If the above is too much for the local terrain, may switch to F100X, 4in rockers, Spider 2.1s front and rear, and custom wheelset.
Very stiff. I now notice the front wheel flexing when I hit the curbs.

    A few revisions.

    Another new Ventana

Skewers: Bolt on Rear, Salsa QR Front
    Cranks/BB: Race Face Next Silver 175mm 44/32/22

Weight: I'll figure that out when it's built - Should be close to the bike it replaced. Rocky Mountain was right around 25, theis feels real close.

    Future changes:
    Headset Spacers switched to carbon
Brake Levers swapped for Avid SD Ultimates
New rear wheel - WTB Rear Hub, Sun UFO rim

    That's about it.

This a great all-day trail bike. Very stiff and light, soaks up the bumps/roots/rocks and still pedals efficiently. I'm a fairly big bloke (190 lbs) so I kept away from silly lightweight bits.

Future changes: Cassette (Sram PG-990), wheelhubs (Hope, King?), chainset (Race Face Deus), Michelin XCR A/T tyres

Just upgraded the gear mechs and shifters from Deore to Sram X9 - big difference and she now prefers gripshifts to triggers. Also upgraded bars, stem, saddle and seatpost. She weighs next to nothing and keeps the wheels on the ground, so decided to go carbon.

I recently switched to a Manitou Minute Two 100 mm fork from a Fox Vanilla RL 125
on my Pantera. I really like the change. Advantages of the Minute are amazingly good bob-free pedaling as a result of the SPV fork combined with the Fox Float RL SPV Propedal shock and 340 grams lighter weight. It also seems to be just as rigid torsionally as the Fox fork is. Disadvantages are the usual loss of small bump sensitivity and plushness with SPV.

Sherwoods advice* to run no more than a 100 mm travel fork to avoid snapping off the headtube played heavily into this change. I like my teeth, a lot. I also had a lot of problems getting the 125 fork to play harmoniously with the air rear shock despite a lot of spring and preload and damping adjustment changes etc. It never really felt in synch with the rear suspension and the Minute surely does. Anyway, the Vanilla will be off to PUSH for a fork rebuild and travel change to 100 mm so itll be around for quick swap outs when I want plushness over light weight and great pedaling.

I like you better as fellow riders than I do as broken up customers with no teeth. Don't do it.

Interesting. I have been considering the Minute 1 for a future upgrade for my Pantera. I have a MX Comp right now that does the trick, but it is kind of soft for my taste, especially for the occasional out-of-the-saddle hill attacks I'll do to carry small hills. I think the SPV would be helpful, even if I have to give up some suppleness.

FYI, I bought my Minute from Jenson when they had coupons and free shipping and it was around $300 shipped. Since then I've seen these orange Minute Twos go for as low as $188 new on ebay. I think people are afaid of the orange color but it looks good and it's softer in person.

Yeah, after my late night posting spree, I checked out eBay this morning. Saw a slighly used Minute 2, but the tube was cut a little shorter than I would like. I suspect they will keep dropping as the new forks come out. I'll keep my eyes open until then.

OUCH! Harsh words from the guy who's single-handedly dissappointed more fat chicks than Jenny Craig!!!

Glad to see at least you're riding! I'm down to about 2 hours a week, but I'm making up for the lack of exercise with copious amounts of pizza and ice cream, so life is all good. Plus it's winter now, heck temps are down into the low 90's...

Good luck in the race, it's tough to block the other riders for 24 hours straight..:-)

    Blue El Salt semi-custom

    Here's my new Salty:

Frame: 06 El Saltamontes semi-custom 20" frame w/18" seat tube

Seat Post: 27.2 Thomson Elite 410mm Black
    Seatpost Clamp: Hope quick release
    Saddle: Terry Fly
Grips: Lock-on (full size, to be swapped soon)
Wheelset: WTB Laserdisc lite hubs, Velocity rims
    Skewers: Mavic/Speedcific
Front Tire: WTB Mutanoraptor Race 2.4
Rear Tire: WTB Mutanoraptor Race 2.4
Accesories: Composite bottle cage, Cat-Eye cordless comp., Lizardskin chainstay protector

    Weight: 27.2 lbs

Could lose a half-pound easily just by swapping out pedals, but love the 545s for how well they work on technical uphills and downhills. Same for the Mutanoraptors; could lose a bit of weight, but these handle so much more securely when the going gets rough than the Panaracer Fire XC 2.1's I used to run.

Future changes: thinking about a light 4-6" adjustable fork

This is my 2-geared single-speed, with a 38x16 and 36x18 options. I can switch these without retensioning the chain, although the 2:1 is a bit more slack than the other combo. Gonna go rigid front soon - probably a Kelly steel fork - for winter and racing.

Would you mind my asking what size ( spindle length ) FSA bottom bracket you are running? I just traded in my Marble Peak FS for an El Saltamontes and have the FSA team carbon crankset, when I tried to use an existing 113 Race Face BB, I had a problem with the small chainring bolts striking the pivot bolt. Thanks in advance.
