    Salmon falls and ticks

Hey Norcal riders, tis the season and time to be carefull.
My son Dustin has come down with Lyme disease picked up by tick at Salmon falls.
All is well, it was caught early and that is the #2 important thing with this disease.
The #1 thing, WEAR A GOOD INSECT REPELLANT!!!!!

There is a ton of info on the net regarding the disease and most importantly PROPER INSECT REPELLANTS to use, please check it out.

Dam Steve, that's just bad luck for the kid. It's not like he's out there everyweekend either.
Healing vibes et al for 'em.

    That sucks

    Sorry to hear that.

Just an FYI, DEET mosquito repellants aren't very effective against ticks. Repellants with Permethrin work best against ticks...and can even stay present (and effective) on your clothing/shoes for several days per application.

My GF was bitten by a tick down in SLO a few years back and she's been battling it ever since. Unfortunately, too many doctors in CA seem to think Lyme is only a northeastern US thing.

One of the mis-steps in my GF's treatment was waiting a couple of days to see a doc despite the classic symptoms. Then, she got an appointment with a lyme specialists, but for 10 days later. She went to urgent care in the meantime and they gave her the standard dose of doxycycline.....to find out the normal does given to battle lyme is 2x the normal dose for other bugs. But, I'm sure by now, you have read a TON on it and not much I'm saying here is new.

Good luck to your son in knocking it back. I know a few folks who got treated early and only felt like crap for about 4-6 weeks and have been symptom free for years since.

Sh1t... Like many, I have often found ticks on me after ride, but never had one bite into me. I'm down in SoCal. But after all this, and having the pleasure to ride with Dustin, it's got me thinking about this. More research is in order. Man... From such a small critter, evil things can come.

Thanks all for the thoughts and good wishs.
Talk about a freakout, the vet pulled one off my daughters ear Sunday. ( where she works, she's working towards a Vet Tech degree)
I think I'll get a gallon of permethrin ( thanks Sam ) and a airless sprayer and dose us all, Does it help to wear a garlic necklace against the little vampires!! DAMN.

Garlic might actually work? Never tried it myself, but seems it is a natural repellent.

Wait a minute here....I thought riding a Ventana was supposed to make us all impervious to all evil do-ers, including ticks?! That's what the sales guy told me at least.
