One more Toy for the Quiver...

I present my 9th Ventana, El Cuervo.

With Ventana closing out the El Cuervo frame, I decided to pull the trigger on one late last year after my trips to Whistler and Northstar. Kept the parts build up fairly conservative/inexpensive due to the limited usage the bike will see. Good enough to play with, but didn't want to break the bank anymore than I already had!

2009 (Built in Fall '11) Medium El Cuervo, Powder Coated Matte Red (yep, looks just like the Ano Chamuco's of old) Elka Stage5 shock. #550 spring.

Parts I had to buy specific to this Frame:
'11 RS Domain RC, Medium spring so far. (Biggest difference to the Boxxers is the Chromoly Stanchions. The reboud damp is the same but the Compression is a simpler big hit Stack for High speed and adjustable low speed).

'11 Easton Haven DH Wheelset. 110 x 20mm front, 12 x 150 Rear. scored these on Closeout from PP.

E.thirteen Chainguide and Supercharger Bash, also from PP closeout.

    203mm Rotors front and rear.

The controls, Drivetrain and Brakes (Juicy 7's) came from other donor bikes. (RIP Komodo)

    Swingarm and Drivetrain

Big spacing! 150mm Hub/thru Axle clamps.

Front Thru and big ole rotors...
    .

    MMMMM thrust linkage!

The PC glows a bit when the Sun hits directly, almost matches the Elka Red bits.

Looking forward to Northstar Opening up this year, hopefully early since we've had a lack of snow so far this year!

Well, I guess that's about it, Aaron has gone to the Dark Side, or should I say DH side?

Sooo sick, good grief Charlie Brown, the EC is one of the best looking DH bikes ever produced! I was laying bed thinking the other night about how awesome the El Cuervo rides, and I couldn't help but wonder why Ventana hasn't adapted the susp design/layout to a shorter travel fr/am bike?? I know the Transition TR250 is such a bike, but the quality isn't there as it would be should Ventana ever dive in.......

Ice - Think there's enough of them?
Mtb4life - Was my Fanboi status ever in doubt?
Salt - funny you should say that, it does have a "mechanical"pedaling sound...
1962 - N* was fun, hope to hit it 4-6 times over their run this summer we should be able schedule something.
Was - See why I was interested in your build? I was debating a single crown 180 fork or the DC.

It's a shame Sherwood is no longer making them. Out of all the Ventanas, they are the prettiest of the frames to me.

Wish I rode DH enough to justify one..

    El Cuervo at Play..

Still no dirt time on it, but did spend some time playing with El C last night..

    .

    .

I thought my Bruja sucked up lips, El C is insanely smooth, very different mentality to riding the big bikes that's for sure.

That is one sweet rig. Saw bikes heading to Northstar when we were visiting Tahoe this summer. I would love to hit some lift assist runs on a bike like that.

Bike hasn't seen real DH Dirt and I'm already making changes!
Ok, just going with a much more appropriate handlebar for DH, RaceFace is back and churning out great product for decent price again.

Wider is better right? At least for DH 780mm!!
    IMG_1750

And since I had to take the grips off, I swapped in some blingy bling! Ok, just Red Ano Ventana Grip Clamps.

    IMG_1752

Love the map of Whistler on the bar, brings back good memories and anticipation to go back!

    IMG_1753

Almost as wide as she is long! Not really but at 31" it's nearly 4" wider than the previous bars.

    When is opening day?

First Friday that they are running and have the upper MT. Open!
I've saved up a few days of Vaca this year just for N* trips.

Well, lemme know and I'll go with you I'll be sticking to the blues and blacks, not ready to hit the double black on the Ciclon even with the DH wheelset.

Been waiting since post-knee surgery to hit there.

Not sure I'd hit any of N* Doubles with anything short of a DH sled. I hit Boondocks following a Team Bigfoot semi-Pro Dher' last year and wow, I pushed Bruja to it's limits on that run. (It's what convinced me to get El Cuervo).

Yeah, definitely wasn't planning on doing any double blacks. BigLarry does them on his Heckler and walks the drops, but then again, that's Larry.

I think the N* blacks would be ok after riding the blues at Whistler.. the blues at N* seem to be more like the greens at Whistler.

How tall are you? I'm 6' so went medium. With a RF direct mount stem at 50mm. Comfy enough but plenty nimble.
