    joining the club :)

The newest upgrades for my 2008 kona unit are...

Blue king BB ( to match my headset and hubs)
    XTR disk brakes
    gates belt drive setup,
and a new 20" El com in cosmic gray!

I also opted to have all the cable stops put on so i can run geared down the road...

I just ordered it, so should have some pics in two weeks or so.

Actually I'm in northern California... Sacramento. but if your ever in this area...Sure I'll show you the local trails. LOL

Oh ya, the frame came in today.
I just dropped off my Kona to have it stripped down and the ventana built up. They also got my new king BB and Gates Belt drive. Only waiting on my XTR disks...but everything should be done by Monday.

I think it will look pretty sweet with the blue king BB,hubs, and headset...
The only thing I will need to upgrade later are the cranks... ill be running my old LX set for now... but the plan is to get XTR arms on there eventually.

Got my at El Comm at Mad Cat as well. Thought I recognized the new shop colors in the background of your photo.

You are going to love the hell of that thing. It will be noticably stiffer than your Kona and it will just rail turns. The grey is a killer color too.

    Well... its 90% finished...

My brakes didn't come in, so they put it together with my old BB7s so I can take it for a ride.
Even so.. It came in at just over 21lbs

I've been swapping out test saddles for a while and finally decided on WTB Devo. I also tossed in a Ti king cage for good measure

I even modded my old LX cranks... LOL

Wedgy -- Is that a carbon seatpost? You may not want to run a carbon seatpost with this frame.

that is a great looking ride. I really like that color. Much better looking than all those white ones that have flooded our local trails in the past year eh?

Me and 2 other of my friends with Commandante frames developed small hairline cracks in the weld that joins the seat tube to the brace thing that connects to the top tube. Sherwood said that they were the result of running carbon seat posts as they're too flexy and cause stress in that area. I literally just took my frame into Ventana this week for this.

He recommended something like a Thomson which I am running now. All of our issues were handled under warranty professionally and very awesomely by Sherwood and the gang, but just a head's up.

That being said, I have another friend who has had a Commandante with a carbon seat post for 3 years and have had no issues so milage may vary....

That's because you and your buddy 'lard ass' the bumps' too much.

On a more serious note, what kind of post were you and the other El Comm. user using?

I'm not sure on the exact model of seatpost of my friends.....but for the approx the first 8 months that I had my frame, I used an EC90. For about the past 5 months or so I've been using a Thomson Elite layback. My frame is nearly exactly 13 months old.

I can chime in on the other seatposts: both were using the FSA K-force carbon layback seatpost (350mm). I had installed one on my new El Com and it's coming off today. I'll go with either the new Fizik seatpost or a Thomson. I did notice some flex with my FSA and was planning on replacing it anyway. I'm 6'1" 185lbs with the post up just over 225mm (9") high. Probably not a good idea having only 125mm of seatpost in the frame anyway so I'll run a 400mm seatpost for sure.

    Cheers

I finally took it out for a real ride... Ran into a few problems with the belt staying on, but its set to jet now.

I tried to get it dirty, but the trails are so nice right now... very little dust, and no mud!
    perfect day for a ride

    Came in at 20.44 lbs
