What is the correct derailleur type for the this frame? top swing or bottom swing? or will either fit?

    thanks,

SP -the X-5 would be a candidate for a 1 3/8 (34.9) toppull, bottom swing ( traditional ). And honestly i've never tried a topswing model on that frame, but am guessing by the looks that with all of the cnc'ing that Sherwood does in that region a topswing derailleur's lower clamp placement would be way to low, and wouldn't work.

I have a shimano xt top swing model (off my old bike) on my large x-5, and it will work with three chainrings. However, I removed the largest chainring and use a bashgaurd instead. This creates somewhat of a problem, as I cannot lower the derailleur to where it is most optimal. It still works, however. I would agree with the previous thread. Get the bottom swing variety. -t

Just spoke with Theresa and Ventana recommends top pull/swing for the X5.

chinook winds and warm temps = melting snow

Blue Mtn usually dries out first, but it's been warm enough that present snow won't be a bother.

aside from the lower Blue Mtn XC stuff, there really isn't anywhere to ride right now

took it out to a friend's house with a whole network of shore-style ladder bridges, totters, skinnies.... excellent manners in the techies, stable on skinnies, etc. but I need trail time.
