    Comandante/Padrino headtube gussets?

I have noticed that newer Comandantes and Padrinos have a sizable gusset between the head tube and the down tube similar to my old Salty.

My early model Comandante has no such gusset.

Just wondering if there have actually been some failures, or if the gusset is simply precautionary. I check the area fairly frequently, but it would be a very bad place to have a frame failure. A typical 29"er fork has at least the a-c and leverage of a longer 26" fork that you would use on a Salty for instance.

The gusset is for those using 100mm forks....

...I'm not running one and therefore Sherwood didn't put one on there.

Yup. When I told Sherwood I was planning to run a 100mm fork on my Comandante, he recommended the HT gusset as well as a beefier top tube (same TT as an El Salt).
