    Off to MTB Holguin

Riding the mountain trails for a week.

A remarkable deal...return flight from Toronto, 7 nights, all inclusive hotel with 8 restaurants and 10 bars (even minibar is restocked for free), 4 star beach and activities (snorkeling, fishing, casino shows, etc.) included for $475.00, including all taxes and transfers. Just $30.00 (return) baggage surcharge for the bike.

I'm told that it's one of the 10 best bike winter training destinations in the world.

    ...and no American tourists!!!!!

    Off on Thursday

Never happened...Hurricane Sandy hit Holguin on Oct 23/24 and the area was declared "uninhabitable". Our flight was diverted to Cayo Coco, a small island on the northern part of Cuba that was essentially a gated resort area where no Cubans lived. Gilligan's Island with free flowing alcohol. Can't complain, though...they put us up in a 5-Star resort then flew us out on Nov. 3 on a chartered Czech plane used by the UN to rescue refugees.

Got out on a bike only twice, but there was nowhere to go...just one road to nowhere. Like going to camp.

Well at least you made lemonade out of lemons and have a story to tell.
I would go nuts if I was thrilled for an epic bike vacation and then I all I get is a cruiser, sand, margaritas, and 5-star lodging..

We're going to try again...I've been unemployed for 7 years and plan on never working again so we've rented a condo for 4 months in Daytona Beach, driving down Jan. 2, taking our bikes, I hear there's good trails around Orlando and points south. Let's see how this works.

Doing a western Caribbean cruise from Miami in February so no riding, but flying to San Francisco for a couple of weeks in March, American Airlines charges $35 ea for the bikes so we'll rent a car and check out the west coast. Back in Daytona by early April and have to be back in Canada on April 20.

Could be a fun winter unless the sky falls. Sandy was no fun, but Cubans did a better job getting things back to normal than those whining Americans.

    5-Star lodging in Cuba:
