As I have been looking for more to do to pass the time between mountain bike rides, I thought of an idea. Using google map placemarks, I would map out all the well-known mountain bike towns/destinations in the world, each with a description. The purpose would be to help travelers choose somewhere to go and to help people new the mountain bike world learn about the different opportunities for riding available. But I do need some help, especially in terms of suggestions for the destinations themselves. Here are my guidelines as to what qualifies as a mountain bike destination.
A place that is good to live or good to travel to for mountain bikers
More than just one trail to ride
Some way of getting a bike, such as renting, buying or a guided tour with bikes included
So far I've got brief descriptions for Boston, Moab, North Conway, East Burke (Kingdom Trails), Fruita, the Black Hills, Crested Butte, St. George, and I will expand every week. I am focusing on a global scale, trying to think outside the US as well as in. Maybe places like Cusco, Peru, it's got great singletrack outside of the US from what I've read.
Oh, and I would love to expand on descriptions of these places as well at some point, maybe talking about good local bike shops.
