Looking for a ride in or around the Netherlands

My best girl and I are heading to Amsterdam for a week. We are probably going to spend most of our time in and around the city but we were hoping to spend a day at a dh park or riding road bikes somewhere cool. We will be there the last week of July and the first few days of Aug. I understand that finding mountains will take some traveling and I am ok with that, just trying to get an idea about how realistic this is and where I can start looking. Thanks for any input.

Here she is stealing some time on my tracer when I am out of town.

I've been to Holland a few times and I always had a blast
I don't think there are any mountains in the Netherlands, you'll
probably have to a take train ride to Germany for any hills.

It does not make sense to do real biking around Amsterdam, it is too cultivated. However there are very nice cycling trips possible. For instance to the villages Broek op Waterland just north of Amsterdam or the quiet polder "De Ronde Hoep" south of Ouderkerk a/d Amstel. But a city tour in the center of Amsterdam admiring the ancient houses with a view on the canals is also great. A little bit further would be a trip to Almere and its surroundings to see the architecture of the new land, that is not to everyone's taste, but definitely something special.

Forget mtb in Holland. Bike around Amsterdam, take the bikes on the train to outlying areas and/or basically just tour. Nothing compares to biking in Amsterdam, you will be blown away by the infrastructure and bike culture. Do that instead of mtb; their best mtb is sand dunes.....nuff said.

There may be some downhill courses in the Limburg region of SE Netherlands (about a two day ride from Amsterdam - 150 miles).
