    Kansas City MO

I am looking in the KC area for a weekend of riding. I am off Friday through Tuesday and KC is about an eight hour drive and about 15 degrees warmer. Any insight on the local trails would be appreciated. More XC focused. Near camping would be a benefit as well.

    Thanks

Hello and welcome to Kansas City! Since you have a few days then hit two or three (or four) trails. Everyone has their favorite so here is my opinion on what I've ridden.

On the east side of the Metro KC area-
Landahl- close to my house and about 17 miles of trails. Some easy, some intermediate, some over my head that I won't try. Put it on your list.
**Note- there is a managed deer hunt here during daylight hours. You can still ride, just keep that in mind. Or, we can ride it at night! :-)

Blue Springs Lake- North Shore Trail. Fast, flowy, great "xc" type trail. Start on the west side, ride to the end, and return. Hit this one too if you are on the east side.

Jacomo- the "undocumented trail" ;-) Roller coaster.

    North-
Smithville. Great XC loop. About an hour north from 'Downtown' KC.
Hodge Park. Small good flowing xc loop. Great beginner trail since it only has one hard challenge- a rock gardent.
Stocksdale- Another great loop. You are either climbing or descending. Great cardio trail.
I'd recommend doing both in the same day since they are so close. Hodge will be easier.

South- Blue River. I haven't ridden it but it sounds like a great trail system

    Central-
Kessler. Never ridden. Personal choice why.
Swope- Everyone loves Swope. We've had issues with the parking a few weeks back. You might want to park at the golf course and ride south. Ranhco loop is easy but yet has some challenges. Outer loop is more intermediate/advanced, especially the south side.
Near Midtown- Roanoke park. Small intermediate to advanced.

    West side-
Wyco! Definitely a roller- up & down flow!
Shawnee Mission Park- haven't ridden but should be good.

If you want to e-mail me for more info pm me.

    Where are you coming from?

Check in EarthRiders.com - Index and maybe someone can guide you along one of our trails. Maps and trail conditions can be found at www.urbantrailco.com

Thanks for all the info. I actually did a staycation since the Weather here has been so unseasonably warm. I do plan on getting down there and Possibly the Ozarks. Maybe late January. I should have cabin fever by then.

Use those links I gave you to learn more about our trails. If you need a guide hit us up on the Earthriders site or Earthriders Facebook group. During the winter we go thru the freeze/thaw cycle. Ride early when the trails are frozen or days when temperatures are low. When our trails thaw out they are to soggy to ride.

Will do. We have the same issues up here with the freeze.
