New question here. SW Utah trail recommendations? Too early for Brian Head?

Coming out to the St. George area May 2nd to the 10th and would love to hear some local recommendations for riding since we've never ridden the area. Fit cross country riders who aren't afraid of aggressive terrain. No shuttles since we only have one car and we prefer to ride up to enjoy the ride down.

Flying in/out of Vegas so we figure we will hit Bootleg Canyon and Cottonwood for a day each at the beginning/end of the trip. Trail recommendations welcome for those as well. Gooseberry was the reason we chose to head to your corner of the MTB world, so we'd obviously like to get some good riding in there. We'll be camping at Snow Canyon at least part of the time, so rides near St. George would be good too.

Any chance Brian Head will have rideable trails in early May? The Dark Hollow and Left Fork of Bunker Creek rides sound really good but we respect the trails so we are looking for some local opinions if they will be rideable and if not, we are looking for recommendations of other stuff in the area that will be.

    Things I've heard about:
    JEM > Hurricane Rim > Gould's Rim
    Thunder Mountain
    Cassiday Trail
    Virgin Rim
    Bear Claw Poppy
    Green Valley Raceway

We plan on riding every day and want to hit the best of the best. Digging around on the Net it seems like some of the trails are short, so longer ride suggestions or best ways to link multiple trails would be helpful too.

In general, how well are the trails in the area marked?

Thanks in advance for any info.

    Cheers,
    Joe

    Still snowed in

This webcam is at the resort. Brian Head peak is quite a ways above this.

JEM > Hurricane Rim > Gould's Rim good, might be hot
    Cassiday Trail possible
    Virgin Rim very unlikely
Bear Claw Poppy good, possibly hot
Green Valley Raceway same as above

Brianhead and the rest of the plateau, not yet.

According to a link on another post here in the Utah forum link Thunder Mountain is OK, so Cassidy would be OK also.

Hot? On may 2 I think not. Warmish maybe.

Little Creek is a must. If you are going to ride in town I often link, in no particular order Racecourse/Barrels/Zen/Stucki for a longer day.

Hot is obviously very relative. If you are from somewhere with normal temps, it might feel hot to you. If you are from St George, Phoenix or Vegas, then you'd better bring a jacket.

Thanks for the tips and help. Just got back from a great trip. We rode the following:
    Bear Claw/Barrel/GreenValley
    Gould/JEM/Hurricane
    Little Creek Mesa
    Gooseberry Mesa
    Broken Mesa
    Thunder Mountain

We also hit Bootleg Canyon and Cottonwood when we flew in/out of Vegas.

We had heavy wind and rain one night in St. George but otherwise the weather was great.
