Moab trail for a rainy day

Here in Moab now. Seeing some rain for tomorrow. We were hoping to do amasa back and captain Ahab but concerned about the weather. Also it has rained quite a bit today will the trail be okay and is it doable in the rain? If not is there something else we can do?

Mag 7 is great in the rain. So is ups, lps, and porcupine segments. Kokopelli from loop road to start of ups is terrible when wet, wicked clay mud that will disable yor bike in 20 yards. Ahab should be good. These trails mentioned actually get better in the rain.

Thanks so much for the speedy reply. Planning Porc rim on Thursday. How long does kokopelli take to dry out? Should we trust the shuttle companies about conditions? You said capt ahab ok, does that me am amasa back too? Good to know about Mag 7. Might be a good alternative to AM tomorrow if raining.

Kokopelli drys out in a day if it is sunny. Amasa back is ok in the rain but you have to be careful on the slick rock, it gets slick when wet. Ahab could present some challenges in the rain where it is exposed and where the rocks are slick so be careful. Could be dangerous if really wet due to cliffs. The key in the rain is to ride sandy trails that have little slick rock and no bentonite mud. That is why mag 7 and lps, ups, and a lot of porcupine are good in the rain. The sand turns super tacky and the rock drys fast so conditions are premium. In the rain, a ups to lps loop is really good and mag 7 would be my next pick. Be careful and watch out for lightening. Little cover on those mesas.

Rained all night the night before and right up to the start of our ride, and we had a blast at Amassa Back.

We did Ahab a couple weeks back and it *really* could have used some rain. I'd bet it's primo when raining/shortly after.
