    Johns Canyon

My son and I are planning a bikepacking trip in the Johns Canyon area, near Mexican Hat. Does anyone have some info for me? Where should I park? What services are available nearby? Is there any water in the canyon? What route is recommended? Thanks!

Congratulations on the most original proposition I've seen on the Utah board in some time. My rather non-originality based knowledge of Cedar Mesa was going to lead me to suggest something like Snow Flat Road to Comb Wash Road to Valley of the Gods Road to Moki Dugway and back across the top, with stopovers for things like Moonhouse and maybe even the Valley of the Gods Inn B&B.

But these aren't John's Canyon. And then I took a little GoogleEarth trip to John's and decided you indeed have the best plan. I'll be curious to hear how it went, going in and out from below the Dugway.

    My only two recommendations:

    (1) Fatbacks (sand-floaty bikes of any type) are the choice.
    (2) Before or after, spend a night at Muley Point.
