Good riding in Utah first week of May

I'm flying into Salt Lake City on Monday afternoon and I'm meeting up with my family Wednesday night in Zion for non-MTB activities. That means I have ~2 days to ride.

I'm looking for advice on the following:
    - Where?
    - Can I rent gear?
    - Can I get a guide?

How much should I expect to pay for the last two?

Skill wise. I'm an intermediate-advanced XC rider from Washington. I was able to finish Leadville last year under 12 hours and I can make it down some blacks at Whistler Mountain Bike Park DH.

    Thanks!

    SLC or SW utah?

Are you planning on spending the 2 days in SLC area or near zion?

If I were you I would spend the two days riding in the st george area. Early may should be great weather for biking. You don't really need a guide. Check out Utah Mountain Biking - Trails, Information, Repairs and find some trails that you like. Red Rock bicycles in st george or OTE sports in hurricane both rent bikes and are top notch shops. They also have trail maps and info. The trails in the area are well ridden so they are easy to follow.

Also, if you can get away for a couple of hours, Gooseberry mesa is very close to Zion and is a blast to ride. Mix of single track and slickrock, transitioning back and forth. Getting there from Zion requires driving a dirt road that probably needs AWD, btw.

Over the Edge is in Hurricane, UT and will be able to set you up, they usually have a ride leaving from the shop.

I'm not a professional guide, but if you are riding in SW Utah on Tuesday/Wednesday I'm going to be down there either running or biking. I'd be happy to show you around. Based on what you've said I don't think you'll have any problems with the local trails.

Thanks! I'm going to rent a bike at OTE in Hurricane and go check out JEM and Gooseberry Mesa.
