    what cranks do you have?

some brands will have an option of different sized chain-wheels.

i know that the Truvativ luftlarm or whatever its called has many different choices for the chain-wheel when you buy the cranks.

You have to have 3-piece, bmx style cranks. examples are deity, profile and other bmx. If you do, go to danscomp.com it is a bmx site and it has a wide selection of chainwheels

No, there is no mtb style "thicker" chainring. and are you trying to do micro drive?

The smallest you'll be able to run on the outside is probably 32. Check out one of these (make sure you get the 4 arm type)...

You could run a smaller gear on the inner chain ring spot and then put a bash guard on the outside. I'm not sure if they make single speed specific for the inside gears, though. But, something like this should work just fine...
