What do you guys use as a chainstay protector?

I know Lizard Skins makes a couple different sized neoprene chainstay protectors, but I see a lot of bikes with what looks to be something black that is wrapped around the chainstay.

    What do you guys use?

Lots of people use an old inner tube wrapped around and zip-tied on.

Personally, I use black hockey tape, a single strip on the top & bottom of the chainstay. I just put strip on strip and make it about 4 layers thick, it doesn't look bad and lasts a few months. After it starts wearing through, just peel it off and repeat.

my bike just has a generic neoprene one on it. The black thing you're refering to is probably a wrap. you can find a lot of them here http://www.universalcycles.com/shopp...?category=1616

I don't need one on my street bike since it's SS... but I've used Lizard skins neoprene ones on all my other geared bikes. I like them, but they occasionally wear out quick it seems.
I can't stand it when people use a super meaty treaded old tire they cut up, just to make their bike look gnarly or something....

Just use a strip from an old tire and wrap it tightly and secure with zipties. I have used lizard skins and tubes and tubes seem to last longer. Please dont use a piece of tire... it looks very bad.

I either use inner tubes or teflon tape.

I used a lizard skins on my previous bike. When I bought the new one, I had 0 cash, so I just used a tube with zipties at the end
It works really well, just make sure you wrap it pretty tight

I use the one that is kind of like a lizard skin that came on my bike:

"Man goes in the cage. Cage goes in the salsa. Shark's in the salsa - our shark! We're gonna need a bigger boat."

probably but im sure there are many things to get it off...goo gone, gasoline, stuff like that, im not sure if any of that would be bad for the frame or not, i wouldnt think so.

Citric degreaser would take that residue off your chainstay.

I myself use a Jumbo lizard skinds protector. The nice thing is if it gets all muddy I can take it off wash it and put it back on.
