    single ring up front?

i posted this is in another section... then thought that better answers might come from here.

I would like to take my 03 P2 and convert it to a single ring up front. I just dont do any type of riding with this bike that justifies having the bigger ring.

is something like that what i need to use to replace the 32 tooth ring? And after the fact, i can rid myself of the front derailuer and the shifter... right?

Also, say i wanted to switch out the 8 speed cassett for a 9 speed, for a bit larger range of gears. is all i need the new cassett? or should i go ahead and get a new rear cassett, new rear derailuer, and new shifter?

or, with a bike this old, should i not even bother? its just that i have tax return money burning a hole in my pocket... even though i dont even have it yet.

thanks for the help, sorry for the newb questions

Keep rocking that 8spd man! That stuff is bomber. Just get the same BCD (hole pattern) as your original ring in whatever size you want and, throw that tax money into a nice chain guide.

well, replacing less stuff means less work... i can dig that.

so that bashguard/chainguide i linked to will replace the bigger ring, and im good to go?

no more need for front derailuer?

That's what you need. Pair it up with one of these and you're good to go.
