That totally blows. I love his segment in Electronical, especially the dirt jump scenes. Awesome rider. One of the things that always made me cringe while watching him ride though was that he NEVER had a helmet on. Does anybody know if he had a helmet on in this crash? Might not have helped much, but maybe this will get more BMX'ers to wear lids.
I hope Mike makes a full recovery!!
EDIT - Yikes, just re-read that article and he didn't have health insurance. Holy $hit.
Damn, I just got a little jump shy reading that story. I can't believe it, I was just watching him on some fairly recent Dew Tour and it was one of the best runs I have watched him do. Aitken is so fluid it's hard to vision him over rotating a trick he nails with such precision.
Un-Insurable, part of the game I guess. I hope he comes back well and continues his career.
sucks for sure. but i read that he is responding to dr.'s when asked to lift his fingers up, but in the same article it said he is still in a coma, how is it that he can do that if he is in a coma? that doesnt make any sence to me. idk ill ask my psych teacher on monday.
If you fellas are not local to this jam and you have the ability to donate his family and friends would be very very appreciative.
Mike is a dear friend of mine and this has left anyone I know that knows him very worried but hopeful. Mike is a trooper and has over come many large obstacles in his life from a very young age. I am confident that he will make a full recovery and be making our jaws drop with his abilities in no time.
Please keep him in your prayers of you pray, in your thoughts otherwise.
Please check out mikeaitken.com or 5050bmx.com for donations or updates, his sister has been awesome at keeping everyone as updated as possible.
