If you're hesitant to use loctite, wrap the threads in PTFE tape (plumber's tape). Then really torque them down, use an extension to get extra leverage if need be.

    What cranks do you have?

Put some red loctite in. However, if your cranks are warped, time to replace them. My old truvativs were like that. The left one would fall off because the square becameb into a circle.
