I've got two 3x3 boxes full of folding tires and two 4ft stacks of dh tires.

I'm not going outside and writing down what they are.

    I hate clutter.

That's quite a tire collection you have. I ride tires till they're worn out and then I replace. When I get a new fork or cranks, etc. I usually give the old ones away to friends. I may buy tires in bulk sometimes if they are on sale, but I rarely swap out until the tire is worn out or the sidewall needs to be replaced. Only exception was some 2.35 High Rollers that were so skinny and sketchy that I took em off after 2 rides and gave em away. I normally rock nevegals in the front and a larsen tt or mutano raptor in the rear. I am interested in trying the new 2.55 Weirwolf LT on the rear of my 5 pack.

3' tall stack of assorted Maxxis tires, half of em used once or twice.
4' tall stack of assorted Michelain tires, half of em used once or twice
Then I have a 2' stack of tires that I have no idea why I keep around, just give em to friends?

    Anyone need some hula hoops??

Talk to me about any of those maxxis or michelins you want to get rid of. These are dh tires right?

Yeah, I remember what inky's garage looked like before he moved to Bend. He had me beat in quantity and quality.

4 pairs on bikes, 3 pairs on spare rims, and another 9 pairs with nothing sitting on, as far as I can remember.

    Decomposing rubber

Does anyone know how long a typical mountain bike tyre will last hanging up in a shaded garage? Is it possible for the rubber compound to break down, age or otherwise change? It's not a very stable area temperature-wise - I'd suggest that the tyres have been exposed to ambients as high as 45-50 deg C, and as low as 4-5 deg C.

I've got a few spare tyres from my last flirtation with dirt that are getting on for ten years old , and while it's obviously a technology that has taken off in that timeframe, I'm just wondering if it's worth my while hanging onto any of them?

It's a random bunch - from IRC El Gatos to an unused set of onZa Porcs through to some Michelins I blagged from the 1996 Worlds in Cairns...
    Cheers,

    Michelins DH Tires:

    1 x Comp 15 2.1"
    2 x Comp 24 2.1"
    2 x Comp 24 2.2"
    5 x Comp 24 2.5"
    2 x Comp 16 2.2"
    4 x Comp 16 2.5"
    2 x Comp 32 2.8"
    2 x Mud3 2.2"

Some are used, 80% of em' are new. I think I might need to get rid of my used ones to make room for my bike when it's built..
