    What's All This Then?

There's been a weird accumulation of boxes at the shop lately. I wonder what this could be all about?

    Stay tuned for future updates...

By the looks of the model name on the label, I'll say you're right.

In other news, cable housing sales have had a strong showing the last month or two...

And after missus 4TurnersAreTooMany sees this, I may have to purchase a set of sapphire and pearl earrings to maintain domestic tranquility .

Bwahahaha! But they do come in blue, so it would be nice from a color coordination standpoint.

Perhaps. I hung a few more parts on it this morning, but I'm now held up waiting for UPS to deliver a couple of crucial parts (front brake adapter and stem). If they show up today, as expected, then I'll be taking a few hours off the day job to finish the job. After that, I can show the full monty.

This is the first (mostly) new bike build in quite a while for me (I've been on the Turner demo bike purchase plan for the last couple), so it's kinda fun to document the build progression.

Because my bike knowledge isn't as up to speed as the ubiquitous Mr. JC, I had to search what was meant by this...now I get it. For those who aren't as forum traveled, or world traveled for that matter, in all things bike, here's the link I found which ameliorated my ignorance.

Hey, I need a stiff rear end!

Yeah, not to stir sh!t up too much, but I'm not sure here in Homerland that I've seen that much enthusiasm for people to throw their own money at fixing a design problem.

its been like that in this industry for years and many a cool company came forth from it. mrp made a killin fixin specializeds problems 10 years ago at twice the price, for example. at least ibis is doin some of its own clean up. might even give that frame a real chance to shine and show us all who coulda been boss had they added 20g in the right spot. no pun intended.

now quit yer mtbr-in and git to buildin!

I can understand if a third party comes in and decides to improve a product. There is plenty of that in the MTB world and we're the better for it. However, the fact that they didn't originally ship a linkage that weighs 20g more to address flex issues spell out the difference between a designer who sweats all the details before going to market and one that is more interested in just getting a product out in my opinion.

Don't forget that these links fixing the problem that didn't exist are now causing "minor damage" to the Mojo frames, meanwhile, Hans blamed the owners, the owners say it's no one's fault. Wonder if MX599 did himself in when he found his frame damaged by the links.

Hah, no way. He was psyched to have saved another .15g with this unofficial mod!

First the bad news. My camera battery petered out before I could take pictures . But the good news is IT'S DONE!

Doing the parking lot test, I was amazed at how the DW Link works. It really pedals with no perceptible suspension action and is plush when you run into stuff. I am hoping to take it out for a shakedown ride tomorrow night.

Pics will be coming as soon as I can get my camera battery charged..

    Shakedown Street

This morning, I loaded the new bike on the car, charged up the camera battery, and went into work. At lunchtime, I put on my riding gear and headed to the nearest dirt. Unfortunately, there's not a whole lot of gnar to put the machine through its paces, but I was able to try out the DWL pedaling ability. On pavement, the bike just moved forward without feeling like I had to overcome the suspension. Very nice. On the almost sidewalk smooth trails of the bluffs, it was hard to tell how well bumps were being soaked up while pedaling. On (the not very) big hits, the suspension did a great job of getting to the end of the travel without bottoming harshly. That is a big difference from my V1 Sultan with the HV cannister. I still need to start playing with the air pressures on the front and rear ends. I was probably getting 20-25% sag in the rear. I'd like to drop the pressure and try it with 30%.

Other comments: I still need to tweak my riding position. The taller fork and head tube on the large frame puts the bars a little higher than I'd like. I'll probably go to a flat bar to mitigate that.

And here's the obligatory pictures (sorry no couch shots):
