    I think it's the 2013 model as pictured SID RCT3 | SRAM

They could have snuck a 2014 in for me on the test bike but I doubt it. Will check and get back to you

2013 fork, the 2014 stuff was not available at the time of the Sea Otter when we put the fleet together.

The write up sums it up very nicely! It is a very capable bike in many conditions, more than just an XC race bike.

Great review. Are you going to have to give it back or are you keeping it? I remember in another thread you mentioned trying to keep it..

    Congrats!! Good choice!

Everytime I ride mine, I find something else I like about it more. I did a ride with some good switchbacks, step ups and drops offs. It was awesome through it all! Just wish I had more time to ride it. I do have just a tick over 500 miles on it now..

The Sultan is not replaced by the Czar. Going to Moab on the Czar is not on my list of things to do. I did race the Downieville XC race on it with a bigger tire than I race on here in SoCal, but there were sections in the rough that needed a bigger longer heavier bike to really go fast. On the other hand, the first climb on the Czar was the best I have ever felt. The Burner was too slack for an old timer like me and I had to chase it more than I like, and the bigger wheels of the Czar made the crunchy parts seem smoother than the 27.5". Glad I have one of each!

Wish I could convince the wife to let me have both I love my Sultan! it is plush, and will power over just about anything with the 34 140 up front. It is a bit overkill for 80% of the riding I do around here though (San Diego north county) and would love something lighter and more XC oriented without going to a hardtail 29er. Czar seems like it would be the ticket. For now I'll keep dreamin'!!

This is a double post, but..

Just got back from Kernville.. I did both the Cannel Plunge and Just Outstanding bike trails on the Czar.

Any questions on "can the Czar be an awesome trail bike" were laid to rest. I was able to solicit disparaging words of disbelief as I came through a rocky switchback on the lower section of the Plunge from a group on long travel bikes walking the section..

I think that was the best part.. he he..

Oh, and to quote a friend who was riding a Rip RDO.. "Your bike just feels like an extension of you when you're riding it.. mine I feel like I'm riding on top of it..."

There was some serious Czar envy going on!!

    Love love love this bike!!
