    Are toe clips really useless?

They're handy in some situations, like this:

Hmph toe clips don't stop bullets.

    But speaking of pedal alternatives.

Yesterday I ran out for a quick afterwork ride... I had just an hour to get in and out of the woods, hit a fun loop and go get the kid.
Work kept me busy as all hell and I finally ran out the door with all haste. Got to the trailhead unloaded the bike and discovered...

I LEFT ALL MY GEAR AT HOME!!!

There I was, no knee pads, no arm pads.... No helmet... and worst of all, I had soft flexy running shoes on and Time ATAC SPD pedals! (no platform)
Bail? It was going to be the first time I got three midweek rides in. heck no! can't pass up such an opportunity. I had my camelback and water. I had my MP3 player.

I went for it! I Rode amazingly well. I had a chit eating grin the whole time. Made climbs jumps, TONS of techy log-overs pretty much a regular ride and even pushed a higher gear and avoided the granny most of the ride just to put a period on it.

I hardly ever slipped off the pedals and believe you me, dem times rolled over under my foot several times.

Clips would certainly have been better, but I'm impressed how I pulled this one out without gouging my leg once.

Frank looked kinda cool kicking butt wearing toe clips. First and last time you'll ever see that in the movies.

"The Transporter" is one of my fav action films!
It's a little over the top here and there, but great fight scenes and a good pace...
    Plus, the pedal trick!

I'm surprised he didn't rip the chainwheels off and use them as ninja stars, or improvise a manriki chain. Really, the possibilities are endless.

No chit. I'm about ready to buy a set for my Spot... freedom...FREEEDOOOM!

It's liberating to ride with sneakers, to be able to hop off or dab instantly and not spend the next 30 seconds pedaling while trying to clipping back.(Frequent sorta thing on tight techy trails when you don't wanna stop for a second) It's nice to know I can put a foot down on that steep jagged granite spine and not skate off in my b/c of stupid converted roadie shoes.

I can still bunny hop tailwhip and all the other things I used to do with SPDs. Must have been all that time on a BMX way back when I was a kid.

Only problem is I have two new unused pairs of SIDIs I bought on sale.

I'd buy them off ya, but I don't wear a Euro size 88-DDD, besides the custom gold, red and black leather piping would clash with the Candy Blue Sultan-

Watch the entire movie. Statham kicks French butt in many ways. I like the scene where the bad guys come at him in a hallway with axes. Ok, ok, here it is:

Really. I switched about a week ago and have only missed clipless pedals once. And that was on a flat stretch of ground.

Plus flats offer so many more footwear options:

I always put on toe clips when I have to walk on slick surfaces....it's almost as good as crocs clogs for grip.

But if Frank has slipped on a pair of Croks in that fight scene, he would have had his a** handed to him.
