    is a single ring with chainguide quiet

    is this a quieter setup than a two ring setup,my front deraileur is noisy in just about every gear.what is the quietest setup?
    I've been inside too long.

    A single speed with no front der is very quiet. Have you tried to tune it, what's it doing

    I'm sure a single ring is quitet, but before you dump your dual ring setup, make sure your Fder is properly tuned and then,

    Try this:


    The zip ties keep the chain from banging on the back of the FDR and also eliminates the grinding noise as it drags over it when you're not using largest cogs.
    Faster is better, even when it's not.

    I ran a 2 x 9

    [with a bash guard, short cage XT RD and a shortened chain and it was real quiet and the shifting was great.
