It depends on how serious you are about racing. It won't be as competitive as a Czar, but it could be fine for some.

Depends on the race, IMO. The Sultan would not be my first choice for a true xc race whip, but on rougher endurance courses, it can be good. I raced the Butte 100 on the first DW Sultan, and it worked out well, but of course, with racing, I ultimately decided lighter was better.

The Czar, on the other hand, is currently my all-time favorite endurance racing bike. It's hard for me to imagine a better balance of pedaling and suspension performance in a bike used for 6 hour training rides, and up to 10 hour races.
The drive towards achievement and success is the motive power of civilization.

I have been on a 08 Flux for the past 5 years of racing and it has been great for our local Vail Valley races. Most are under two hours but have a lot of climbing. At 6'2 the big wheels of a Sultan or Czar would be a better fit for my old bod. Most of my daily rides are on a 30 pound Satori and love the bike but a race bike it is not. Sounds like the Czar in a XL is a ways out.

Unless money or leeriness of carbon is a factor, the Czar has the same travel as your Flux and will be the superior choice for racing.

    You knew this, though.

At 6'2 would the new 27.5 Flux be a bad choice for a race bike?

Not as good as the Czar, especially in your area. The Flux would be better in the tighter woods/cacti but on the western slope, 29 is king. But you knew that Mr. G....
