needed: new ankle high riding shoes

hallo! Long time no post.....

My beloved (and great priced) Shimano AM 50 shoes self destructed after many good rides.

I need a new pair of kicks - I really prefer the ankle high as I have saved myself from a lot of pain.

Any reccs? I prefer a little more flexible than rock hard roadie shoes that have had ankle high added to them.

Mavic Alpine XL has received editor's choice in Bike mag...I have a pair on order. Might not have as much protection as the Shimano though.
