Need color coordination help!!!!

Greetings,

I am going to treat my Sangria Red 5 Spot to a new wheelset with Chris King hubs. What hub color should I choose????

Black - Classic, not as blingy?
Pewter - Blingy, but somewhat subtle?
Silver - Blingy, less subtle than the Pewter?
Red - Blingy, but will the Reds clash?

Thanks for you opinions!!!

Yes, but OP is going to be actually riding his bike . . .

I'd go silver or pewter, silver spokes, black rims. Add a Thomson silver seatpost and stem (or a Hope) and you will be golden. Err, silver.

That red is sweet. Wish they made a beverage that color.

Apologies just pissed my pants

Go black the Red will set it off, maybe ad some red nipples or maybe Pewter just remmeber to co-ordinate ya seatpost and stem and bb outers, headset to match otherwise it will be off color imo for what its worth! all for color huh what we do

Red hubs would be too much

Black fades to brown and red fades to pink in the sun. I think pewter goes sorta lavender after a while. I like silver best personally. The "hue" never changes.
My video techniques can be found in this thread.

Pewter is a great choice and the safest. Before I got my 6 pack (the og granny smith green Turner frame) I had all my pewter Chris King stuff on a cardinal red Gary Fisher Ziggurat. Sligtly different red but the color combo was awesome. The pewter goes with everything so you never have to worry about clashing even if you change frames. Don't bother with pewter nipples. They do not show up, go with silver alloy nipples or red to match your frame. Red nipples would be the perfect comprimise.

The red hubes does sound really cool. Red hubs black spokes and red nipples and black hoops. Can say you POP !?! Even if they are not exact match-which they would not be but not too far off- it still would look sick! There was a new Sangriah red spot down at Kore Bikes last night.

I think all black rims are very understated which I am not. They don't hurt the eyes but they don't draw your attention either.

Tscheezy you are right. My experience Chris King pewter does pick up a very light lavender hue to it over time but it actually looks even better that way. It is not as strong as the color change when red fades to pink.

What CC at TA said: black for all the components . . . and if you -must- have some shiny color bits, use it for the highlights (nips, seat collar, headset, grip clamps, etc.).

No offense to Zilla's blingy Highline, but it kinda reminds me of a Christmas-tree ornament.

Ok!!

No answer at 1-800 FOSHIZL.......

Very insightful info comes from tscheezy. The fading of the colors makes silver the choice for me. Since I am in Phoenix, they will be dusty most of the time anyway which will keep the shiny silver from blinding anyone.

TLL is right I will/have been riding this bike (77 rides/1400 miles since November 2007).

thanks,
bobo

Pictures of wheels on Spot to follow when I get the wheels....

12 years of anno in phx with relitively no fade and yeah, i rode a shyt ton back then, ill guess 180 miles a week. didnt own a car so id ride 8 miles to s mtn then 10 or so in the dirt followed by another 8 back home. i did that 5 or 6 days a week plus my around town stuff and commute to work.

i think it has alot to do with the cleaners ya use. mild, and heavily diluted dish soap treated me well and my black king hubs from '00 for example, are still quite black.
