    How does a chainguide work?

Hey fellas, I'm thinking about getting a chainguide for the Pack but had a question. Does the roller move with the chain or does it stay in one place and the chain does all the moving around? How does it keep the tension, say if it goes from the middle ring to the granny? Know whut I'm sayin? Spank you.

The roller does not move. Dual ring guides generally have a stepped roller. The "lower" step lines up with the middle ring, the upper step with the granny. The chain wants to fall into the lower position on the roller. The chain also wants to fall from the middle to the granny when things get bouncy. So when things get bouncy, the chain is held in the lower step on the roller and stays lined up with the middle ring. The chain will climb onto the higher step if you pedal in the granny, but it won't if you don't want it to.

The chain gets thrown off the middle ring when there is nothing to stop it. Imagine trying to "flip" a length of rope over something by tossing a loop out. The chain does the same thing but as the wave of slack travels forward from the bouncing rear der it meets the chainguide and the wave stops there. No more flipping off the middle ring.

If you bring hot chocolate in a thermos, I think I'd like to go on one of your rides.

And yes, I live in cold climate. All those pictures of you guys still riding in shorts has me very jealous.

I sport Core Rat stuff. They were created by/company owned by a girl so it makes sense they fit me the best.
