    From Experience...

I would have to say it looks like a slab of salami, here in Czech Republic they would call it Lovecky. I dont know what its called in Germany but I can tell you its good stuff. It comes wrapped up in paper that makes it perfect for tossing in your pack. You can cut a nice big chunk and stash it in your camelbak if you want something more substantial than an energy bar on a long ride. I usually take a piece and a couple of fresh rolls on long rides to use as my lunch. Still, its even better afterwards with a nice cold beer.

Oh how I miss being in Munich (or Bavaria for that matter) in the summer. Nothing like those liter sized steins of bier.

    Prost!

Thanks for all the interest in bavarian culture. I'm always glad to be able to contribute to the common cliche.
Wait till I post pictures of the Oktoberfest!

The pretzel sort of thing off course is a pretzel. You want to keep everything in the right proportions. Can you imagine a smaler pretzel combined with that glass?
    You should see the dishes!

I thought about a little "thing on the paper" competition wih a "thing on the paper" as first price but the correct answer already has been given althought i thought it would come from tscheezy as the fish expert.
It's a smoked mackerel. It's called "Steckerlfisch" (fish on a stick)

    Guess I was wrong...

If you would have had a contest for it I am happy that I would not have won. Nothing wrong with smoked makerel (sp) but man it sure would stink up the inside of the ole camelbak if tossed as a mid ride snack...

    Kneitinger Bier

I lived in Bavaria (Regensburg) for almost a year (1997-1998) working on a fellowship at the University. Excellent town and region. My first day there I was taken over to the Kneitinger Brauerei for a couple of the Bocks. What a great place. Planning a trip back next year to visit friends and enjoy World Cup again. I can't wait!

I was visiting my brother (a US serviceman at the time) at Ramstein for 3 weeks in 1998. While in Germany/Europe, I was able to go to Paris and catch the final stage of the Tour and then take a week long cycling tour in Bavaria. I started in Munich and went to Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Fussen, Lechbruck Am See, and back to Munich. That is easily the most memorable trip I have ever taken. I really enjoyed the people. They were very good about helping a non German-speaking Californian get what he needed. There is nothing like sitting in a Munich beer garden after a good ride on an August afternoon.

It was really cool watching the surfers in Munich. It looks like you can have the beach (or at least waves) and the beer gardens!
