    HIP Weekend

Great weekend guys, and congrats to the winners of the frames. Ya'll owe the waiter a tip for pulling your ticket. Thought I would get a new thread started for pics and reports. I've started going thru the pictures and trying to get the ride profiles uploaded so I'll start the HIP Weekend with this

Spy photo of the new Double Double Barrel shock.

Holy brake fires - looks like you fell off a cliff on Bent Creek between mile 6 and 7.

Not sure what that is, I think my GPS may have lost it's signal for a minute.

Friday's ride I took my point & shoot camera and none of the shots came out very well so I'm hoping someone else has some. Here's a few from Laurel on Saturday.

    The meet at Sycamore Cycles

A little break almost to the top, what follows is some of the nastiest hike-a-bike you'll ever do.

Great downhill run, plenty of big rocks and tight switchbacks.

    Flat time....

A few from Dupont on Sunday. We were pressed for time to get started on the way home so I didn't get many photos.

Looks like you guys had a blast at Dupont. I am really sorry I wasn't able to make it out that morning. I ended up getting in a real time crunch to get home for some family business. That place is some great flow to end the weekend with.

Walk/Rolled out. Luckily where it happened was all downhill to Jim's (CC's Engineer) truck, and he took him to the hospital.

Looks like he hit a rock square and had an explosion. Happened to my wife out in Fruita a few weeks ago. She just got bounced wrong on a sketchy turn and hit a fok, 34 stiches later she was good to and in the middle of no where. Looks gnarly bro!!!

To all that attended I give a big thumbs up. An excellent group of riders. We cooked right along on all the rides. Great vibe all weekend. It was cool riding with all you guys and hanging out at the various eateries. 1.5 sorry for yelling out Holy F'uhq! The site of the knee just took me by surprise. That's the last thing you want to hear.
I will be a Pilot Rocker from now on. Doing that ride back in the late Nineties on a hard tail with a Z3 was quite different than riding it this past weekend on some sweet North Carolina homegrown suspension (CCDB).

If someone made Virginia smaller I wouldn't mind the drive so much. Being told by your sat nav unit that it's 288 miles until your next turn is dispiriting

Last week I was busy confusing the NCers, especially that ranger at Dupont with a CT plated car. I drive back to NY and the car I'm in this week has NC plates, go figure. Looks like I'm covered for the cracked windscreen though

I'll go through my photos etc and post up once I get home at the weekend, but it looks like there's already plenty similar ones on here.

    Wow

What a trip! 1.5 get well soon and upgrade your bike to ease the pain. To all the others thanks for a great ride. As a side note did anyone get food poisoning? I got home sunday sick as a dog 102 fever and all. A big thanks to SS for getting things started and to Rob for picking up the fight. That was a great work. Could someone pm me the real name screen name cross over since I have not put it together. My bet is Cruzethepug got it all down. Congrats to the winners (all who were present).

I appreciate all the comments, thanks.
    Update as of tonight:

Met with an orthopedic surgeon yesterday. He felt strongly about going back in to fix my torn patellar tendon this week. So, tomorrow morning, Im scheduled for surgery. Going to sew the tendon back together and bolt it to my tibia so it will heal faster and stronger. Also cracked my Patella, which is cool. No problems, will heal quickly.

For sure glad I was not somewhere outta Brevard in the woods, that would have sucked.
Gotta few idea's for the bike while Im down.
Thanks again, will keep this updated on how everything goes.

BTW thanks for leaving the note on the "green Blazer" I was driving. SomethingCleaver "the Pharmacist" and I appreciated it.

I don't think I got food poisoning but I sure felt like $hit for a couple hours. My guess is that's what 2 day's of mexican food, BBQ and 4 or 5 pitchers of margaritas will do to you. Along with riding 52 hours over a 72 hour period.

    Heal quick 1.5

I've been there man. Couple of years ago I went OTB and landed on my right elbow on a big rock. Had to have a few screws and some wire added to put it all back together. It sucks but you'll be back on the trails soon. Heal up well. Sorry you missed a couple of sweet rides on sat. and sun.

    Knee is back together, finally.
Went in for surgery this morning @ 7am. All went really well. My patellar tendon was sewn back with Kevlar and Gore-Tex, better than new now. Feels much better and I have a degree of movement. My recovery time decreased, went from being completely immobile for 3-4 weeks to 3-4 days. After the 1st week I begin physical therapy, will spend plenty of time in the pool working on rebuilding my strength. Will be back on the bike sooner than before.
I'll keep this updated and thanks for everyone's comments.

I wish I had a cool story like that. Honestly, I think my front wheel washed out and down I went. That's it, simple, no problems crash. My knee happened to find the perfect rock at the right time. Simple everyday case of JRA'ing at it's finest.

That's kinda what we figured. I remember just before I got to you rolling about 8' on my front wheel around a corner, due to one of those whaky roller type things that run was littered with.

1.5, that was a nasty one for sure. Glad you're doing ok and hope you're riding again soon. Healing vibes your way...

Coincidently, one of my worst injuries happened after bombing a couple minutes of killer singeltrack. I was JRA back to the truck on a relatively flat section of trail and somehow managed to wash out in an off-camber turn. Ended up with a gash in my arm that required 13 stitches. I'm only mentioning this because sh!t can happen at any time, and often when you least expect it. ALWAYS where your pads!

That looks like fun. I want in next year.
As far as knee injuries I wear TLD T-Bones w/ the back of the knee cut out for comfort and ventilation. After a few rides they disappear and really are awesome protection.
    All about the ride
