    HIP/VIP Schedule

With HIP coming up we need to cement some plans. May 16, 17 and 18

SSINGA isn't going going to be able to make it but I think he had the rides planned out. So Sean pipe on in when you get a chance.

We have the Industry Nine tour/pump track cemented in on Friday, but we need to nail down a time.

The guys at Cane Creek want to ride and they are offering up a tour again for this year if we can get it into the schedule.

I am catching a lot of this in second hand, but I know the area really well along with some of the other regulars. MarkZ06 (T2Bikes.com) is handling the raffle for the frames and the huge pile of shwag that we got hooked up with.

Here is what I am thinking...

Friday - Industry Nine Tour/Pump track in the afternoon and a Bent Creek (Green's Lick) ride early evening.

Saturday - The Laurel Mtn. ride that SSinGA planned on doing (this is a killer NC singletrack epic) in the morning/early afternoon...then lunch and a ride that evening. Maybe Black Mtn.

Sunday - Dupont or Heartbreak Ridge

    Let me know your thoughts...

Heartbreak is a must for Sunday. What route were you thinking? Climb Kitsuma from Old Fort, desecend Kitsuma, cross the railroad and climb Curtis Creek to BRP, then pick up Heartbreak? --That would be an awesome epic.

    Stoked for sure.

We went up the toll road and then the dh dumps at the car. I'll have to give Marty over at ProBikes a call...she is the one that led the ride for Mark's birthday.

What time do y'all start rollin'?

Do you have a planned time to be on the bikes for the Saturday and Sunday morning rides? I'd love to meet up with you all on Sunday and put some faces on all these Homer Names.

I am afraid only the Ventana is available to win. I am definitely going to win the HL. I haven't won anything, ever in my life. I'm due boys!! And I even bought a ticket this time.

Ha. Hopefully whoever wins the HL (I don't have a prayer given my random drawing luck) enjoys the snot out of it. Sniff, sniff.

Mudpie has the hookup on a tour guide for Laurel on Saturday. Probably start in the morning sometime around 9 - 10 meeting time would be my guess.

    HIP/VIP Raffle & Arrival Times

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Alright as of 5-13-08 we have sold...

    81 Highline
    42 El Fuego tickets

Some guys have chosen to pay via check, which I have not received. Needless to say you will not win unless you pay.

I will accept ticket purchases up till the drawing on Saturday, but you are at the mercy of my ability to get online. If you are not added to the drawing you will get a refund.

I will be staying at my cabin Wednesday through Sunday. If you are coming in early and have a car feel free to come to Saluda. I will have some beds for Wednesday evening only. PM me if you want to get together Wednesday or Thursday.

The attendance list seems to be getting smaller so I think that everyone will end up with some swag.
You want to ride behind someone who does something that?

    Sunday?

How about Sunday times? -- If Heartbreak is the route, its a solid five-seven hour ride I'd guess, depending on how folks roll.

After thinking about it for awhile...we might be a little spent for the Heartbreak climb...Dupont might be a better option for Sunday.

I will opt for DuPont since it will make it eaiser to get home at a reasonable hour on Sunday. Plus Heartbreak is a beeach!

The post I have been putting everywhere else...

Our annual Homers in Pisgah ride is this weekend for those interested.

Friday - Industry Nine Tour followed by a Bent Creek ride
Saturday - Laurel Mountain in the morning and Black Mountain in the late afternoon
    Sunday - Dupont

The big ride is historically the first ride on Sat.

There are two frames being raffled off to benefit the Pisgah SORBA chapter that will be given away Saturday night.
You can purchase the raffle tickets here...and you don't have to be present to win.
    Turner Highline
    Ventana El Fuego

We also have a ton of shwag that is going to be given away Saturday night. So much, that it looks like everyone is leaving with at least something that shows.

If you have any questions...email me at rsutton1223 at gmail dot com. I am all crackberry'ed out these days...so I'll be able to answer your email from the road.

If we hit Dupont on Sunday what time is that ride likely to finish? I need to bail before midday to have any chance of being at work on Monday.

    Bummed!!

Well, I wont be able to make this year because I have a baby that will be here in a week, so leaving the house for a weekend when a baby is almost here could mean leaving the house for good. Just kidding!!! but, I will miss it and hope ya'll have a great safe time.

As for the Heartbreak ridge ride. You know you can shuttle that whole downhill from the Blue Ridge pkwy that we rode up for Marks b-day ride. You just don't turn at the two campers where we started descending. You literally bomb down everything we climbed that day then at Ridgecrest resort you cross over to Kitsuma and do a small mile climb and get about 7 miles of descending. So, about 21 miles of descent with maybe 2-3 miles of climbing. That sounds like a good day.

I'm not a local, so maybe someone else has an alternative route. I don't know of any way to get up to the BRP without alot of driving, but like I said, I could be wrong.

Blackagness & I may be cutting it close to get to I9 by noon, but we can always leave earlier. We are 6 hours away and are already leaving at 4:30AM. Nothing a little espresso won't fix.

Cheers! Man on man am I getting excited!!!

Good luck with that, right 'Zilla? Watch out for instructions that try to direct you onto train tracks; I'm not sure the backwoods of NC are fully GPS direction compatible

Look for the Excapades gentleman's lounge and turn left just before it. Maybe you could trade a few pretty pink spokes for a lap dance.

Congratulations! The frames should look sweet after a clean and polish after we test rode the them this afternoon at Black Mtn

No he is right. Best mountain biking in Pisgah I have ever done...not just on HIP rides.

The Pilot downhill was classic! Better than Heartbreak. There will be more updates as everyone gets back but we were making full days of the entire trip which explains the lack of updates. This trip was better than last years as far as rides go.

It's ok JNC...you don't have to be bitter because you weren't there.

Bitter? LOL. I wasn't there because I chose not to go....what's to be bitter about?

I'm glad you all had a blast...you still sucked at providing the rest of us with updates...

Glad you all had an awesome weekend.

I'd like thank thank everyone who helped me get outta Bent Creek after my crash. Knee is doing better, opened it up nicely.
Thankfully, I had some awesome friends that took excellent care of me Friday and Saturday.
Will put up some pictures asap.
    Thanks again!

We were wondering how you were doing because we hadn't heard anything. Really glad to hear that everything turned out ok. That was a nasty one. So what is the final count on the damage?

Yeah, glad to hear your all right!

That was BY FAR the most disgusting injury I've ever witnessed.

I thought you might have surrvived the night, but later surly not the following day.

I'll definetly second that. I don't have much Pisgah/Dupont experiance, but I can at least say without a doubt, it was the ABSOLUTE BEST riding I've ever done in my entire life PERIOD!!!

It helps to have a great group that know what the hell their doing to tag along with.

Too bad we had to loose one of ya'lls fellow Homers however.

Awesome weekend, I'm going thru the rest of my pictures (200+) and will start posting some in a new thread. Motionbased seems to be taking forever to process my files, so ride profiles will get posted as soon as they are ready.

Home now after a 12 hour drive, awesome weekend. I don't want to sit in a car seat for at least a month, so the 4 hour drive to work tomorrow will be fun...
