    Head badges?

    Hi all,

A boring query for a cold evening....
A quick question - my '01/02 RFX has a monochrome headbadge yet my '02 XCE had a coloured head badge. Is there some kinda kudos to having the pretty coloured bands on your head badge?
I was looking to get a colourful one for the upcoming repsraying of my RFX as my best mate always ribs me that my head badge is in black n' white :-( and not a 'real Turner'....

The replacement ones in the turnerbikes.com shop look monochrome so does anyone know where i can get a coloured one to complete my refurb... or sell me one and ship it over here to chilly England?

    Cheers all, happy trails,

    Stu

It would be nice if DT could take a moment to explain the WC heritage of the old badges.

Cheers folks... shame I cannot get a rainbow one - have been looking through the RFX'ixation thread trying to see what colour to have it sprayed. At the minute it is a tatty black, with painted black back end.
I am going to try and polish up the rearstays and am currently favouring a white front triangle....although wsh I had the patience to polish the whole frame :-/

    ta for your replies...

A very generous Endo Rando gave me his only spare WCS badge, and I'm greatful to this day.
It's a shame they're not available b/c not only do I like the colors better but they are stouter than the current standard ones. OTOH the new metal UGI badges are pretty trick. I'd recommend getting two of those. One to put on your bike and one to hang on a necklace to wave in your mate's face.

I painted the background on mine black.

The WC badges are the shiz-nit, glad I still have one. I have to update my avitar since the Spot is now Kermit green. The new badge - whenever available will make its way onto the Spack as soon as they're available.

On a related note, how did you attach the headbadge back on to the frame?

I didn't want to mention this since I happen to be hoarding WC badges so I can ebay them and retire someday, but, you could just paint those stripes on a b&w badge.....

...nothing to be scared of. It was simple & easy to drill & install. I meant to document the process with pics & do a quick write up...but I am sort of in between digi's at the moment. Maybe Skullcrack took some when he did his install....

Nope. It was incredibly easy though. I followed the instructions that came with it and was done in about 5 minutes.

Here's a pic of the stainless head badge. Key chain version not rolled to the head tube shape, but you get the idea.

Yep exactaly. I cut the protective plastic around the background area which left the rest masked, and sprayed it. A peice of tape would do the same. The overspray that leaked under the plastic scraped off easily.

As Airwreck said, one could easily buy some model paint and do the stripes on the current badge. I do like the older badge construction better though. The current standard badges are more foil-like and the doublestick foam tape is thicker than the 3m film of the past. This raises it up more and makes it more prone to snagging and bending when washing the bike, or any thing else that rakes past the corners.

The new metal badges are a cool alternative . Could someone post up some pix of the new badge mounted? ** Edit: Nevermind... Search 'Zilla, search!
