New question here. Front Derailleur for Burner Question.

I know the size (34.9) but does the burner need a top-swing or dual pull front derailleur? What are people currently using? Here are some options i have seen on online retailler pages:

    Deore XT M761 28.6/31.8/34.9 Dual Pull/B
    Deore XT M760 28.6/31.8/34.9 Dual Pull/T
Deore XT M760-E TypeDual Pull/Top Swing
    XTR M960 Top-Swing Dual-Pull 35.0 Frt De
XTR M961 Trad Dual Pull35.0mm Front Der

    Either of these:

    Deore XT M761 28.6/31.8/34.9 Dual Pull/B
XTR M961 Trad Dual Pull35.0mm Front Der

You do NOT want an "E-type" or top swing. You need a bottom swing (B?), top (or dual) pull. I am thinking that "trad" means bottom swing, but I'm not positive. Don't get an expensive front der. Just get LX or XT. There really is no functional difference between the grades.

I assume the Burner and 5-Spot take the same front derailleur?

    will a FD-M738 work on a 5-spot?

As far as I know, all recent Turners which accept front derailleurs (e.g., O2, XCE, RFX, 5-Spot, Burner) use the same front der. The 738 in a 31.8mm (1 1/4") will fit. I wonder if that is an old 8-speed front der? The 8sp front ders are 0.5mm wider in the cage than 9sp. If anything, that should reduce chain rub. I don't see why it wouldn't work.
