    front deraileur question

I know this has been asked 4,000,000 times and I apologize, but can I cut the piece that interferes with the rear triangle of this RD from my Kona Dawg. Or do I have to buy a new one for my 2013 5 Spot?

34.9mm band clamp, down swing cage, and top route cable

    Thanks!!!

Another question. I switched 2 x 10 big ring from 38 to 34. Now that the big ring (34 tooth) is smaller, I should lower my front derailler. Unfortunately, the welds on frame will not allow me to lower. Any suggestions? 12mm gap from chainring teeth to Btm of derailler, should be 1 to 3 mm!

I have been riding my Sultan for a year now with a similar gap and no issues - I say run it and don't worry about it.

Yeah, that 34 ring is best mod for where I ride, has not been a problem for 10 rides. However, when riding a little more hardcore on Butcher Ranch Trail in Downieville, chain comes off every run on that section of trail. No big deal. Just obsessing. I do the old front downshift, and try to get it back on while coasting. Baby pedal.

So, second trip to Downieville in 10 days ( MTBR group was great ), the issue with this gap is that when on long smooth single track at high speed with small jumps, the chain will come off once in a while. Usually I can soft pedal, shift to small chainring, and get it back on without looking, and keep going. It BARELY comes off. Would be sweet to fix this gap.
    1. E-type derailler, never had one. Look delicate and flimsy?
    2. Different brand, with higher clamp.
    3. Direct mount to frame, but no female hole in seat tube.
    Any ideas?

Ordered bolt on front derailler, and the adapter to fasten around seat tube, this adapter can be be dremmeled a bit. Also, the oval bolt hole on derailler can be drilled another 2 mm. Parts on order, we will see. My right crank is demolished from chain drops.

Better now, direct mount dérailleur, and adapter. Thanks Wrench Science!
