Does your significant other find your biking kind of funny?

Cindy yelled at me this am, "Hey, are you back on that site again? Most women have to worry about porn sites but you are addicted to biking. I think you love that bike more than me." It was tongue in cheek with some ribbing but she doens't get it.

Does your significant other get it?

She refers to you guys as my "electronic friends" and thinks the boards are kinda odd, but we have met a lot of really cool peeps on road trips that I first contacted through mtbr so she has also reaped the benefits of my little diversion. An indirect bene is that she also gets to stay on the cutting edge of swag since I am up on all the latest and like to put the goods on her rig too. She even typed a post once.
My video techniques can be found in this thread.

My wife is not keen on the time that I “waste” on bikes and the work I do for myself and friends who I ride with and the prep work / bikes I build for them,.
But she has said once that I have a nice derrière which I put down to the cycling, so on some level she likes it

I don't know what mine thinks, nor do I care.

She's also going to be reading this post and sending me a PM when she gets back home.

    I love starting trouble.

It's ok. The pain will end soon, possibly with a valium, barbiturate, and smirnoff cocktail.

Then I am still at a loss because I have been doing the valium, barbituate, vodka trio for a while (you are not the first person to reccomend it) and it doesn't seem to be doing any good except for hangovers, it clears those up real quick!

stop me if yer tired of hearin this (like id shut up if ya did). maybe im just the lucky one but my girl digs my bike habit and like others have said, shes cool with how it keeps me semi fit. the other bonus is if im ridin or doin other bike stuff im not as big of a pain in the ass cuz im happy. she lets me get away with alot that most any other non bike geek girl might put up with. a home shop, tons of bikes, huge outlays of cash and hours or days away from home fillin the bike spot in my soul. she rides, not much, but she rides. all tame stuff but she rides. once in awhile she gives me crap for the time i spend on here yackin it up with you morons or when im out with the guys talkin bikes, specialy when shes with me and has little interest in the topic at hand. but i get to her side within time to salvage the evening. every relationship has its compromises. im just damn lucky she makes this one. i love you sweety. kisses.

hey speed. ya mean that gal from casey moores never called? drag pal. hehe.

    Cool-blue Rhythm

I asked my wife to read this topic to state that I'm not the only freak around on this planet, spending total evenings surfing on the net for information and sharing information with other bikefreaks.
This additional to all biking and wanna-be-bikemechanic-time

As a result she now states that SHE is not the only one thinking our behaviour is freaky... so it's not something to worry about for HER
That's the other way around from what I had in mind... I wanted to proof that I am not the only one...

I'm still waiting for my gf to read the above post I made. The cool thing is she can't chew me out because I've got her bike at my place awaiting some major repairs.

Just finished ordering the last little bit of stuff for the Six pack (a long 9 month process!) and the wife says it's going to be a long, long time before I order any more bike parts. But she's cool with it, evey man has gotta have some hobby they can really get into. Nonetheless, it's tough sometimes to explain away how a single bike can sometimes cost more than a halfway decent used car. Ya know, sometimes I wonder too.

But I'll tell you one thing. I'm SO LOOKING FORWARD TO THROWING A LEG OVER THAT SADDLE AND TAKING HER OUT FOR A RIDE!!!

My partner is great, she puts up with me ranting, riding and cleaning my steed.

I'm fitter and a much calmer person once I've turned a knobbly, so she reaps the rewards too

She even browses the odd bike related forum once in a while.

We both enjoy meeting different peeps who ride and have had some great road trips.

I guess it helps that she loves her new MTB and enjoys a gentle amble out on two wheels every now and gain.

My wife gives me crap all the time about being online and talking about bikes. "What can you possibly be talking about?" "You have three bikes, why are you looking at that one?" I of course don't have answers that can explain it to someone who isn't already a bike nut. The funny part is she loves riding, just doesn’t care about it much more than that. If she's not riding she's not thinking or thinking about it.
Its funny how things changed for me/us after our daughter was born. Even soon after she was born I got the "nothing's going to change you can still go out and ride", but that only lasted a few months and then I was fitted with a leash. Riding 4-5 days a week turned into one. After the next couple of years I was up to maybe getting out twice a week. Our second, my son, came home in January (adopted), and now I have a feeling things are going to get worse (riding wise). I can't sweat it too much though because if I'm not out riding I'm spending time with my wife and kids and that's cooler (about 95% of the time) than biking anyway.

She does - maybe I should tell her how much it costs then she wouldn't.

That said, it's a whole lot better and cheaper than the golf/cars/mistress/all the other bad habits 40+ you blokes get into.
