You might want to consider this:
    3M Clear Paint Protector

It's pretty expensive though. Blue Shorts clued me in on this and I tried it on my Spot's Top tube. Works like a charm. It's a little thin to handle in long sheets so maybe apply it with soapy water to slide it around in place.

After a year of use it's proven quite durable in resisting cable rub nicks and peeling. Very good stuff. I'll be putting it on my next frame too.
Faster is better, even when it's not.

Probably the same 3M stuff as above, but cut into kits for bikes.

Is what you want. Always touch and go finding it but auto and motorcycle racing specialty shops carry it.

    Have fun.

    Thanks for the link.

This stuff seems to come in huge quantities like 60 feet. they have 3" x 60' for $62 ... "findtape.com" has 3 in. x 60 ft. $98.00. do CDOC has a better price.
I don't need 60' 3"x10' would be more practical. 4"x 10' would be nice for full wraparound but only need to do the top and sides of the TT plus HT and taco areas. I'll keep looking.

    nice option

That's a nice option if it's basically the same as the helicopter tape. If it's 'moto style' then odds are it's a similar polyurethane-style tape. About twice as expensive, but more convenient because of the sheet sizing.
