Ordered up a Manitou Tower Pro at 389$ from Price Pt. Lots of tuning options and light weight for a 140 taper. Maybe in a year the reviews will be in on the Pike 29er fork and the price might be more reasonable. 1K for a mtb fork is crazy. You can almost get a set of Ohlins cartridge kits for a MX bike for that amount.
Rumor has it -- though somewhat hotly debated on the 29er Components forum -- that the Pike is shorter than the Fox. I'd like that. I found the Sultan just a little too high with a Fox 34 on it at 140 mm travel. Great for pedaling through rocks, but not so great for railing corners.
Hard to blame that one on Turner. The current Sultan was designed around a 120 mm Fox 32 (all that existed then), so when you add 20 mm of travel, and about 12 mm for the taller chassis of the F34, you jack up the Sultan over an inch higher than intended.
