Advice on 36 Van Clearance issues on Medium Pack?

Picked up and installed a Van Rc2 on my medium Pack. Excellent fork so far, but I've noticed that the rebound knob doesn't quite clear the downtube. I know Ventana makes a taller Chris King crown race, but this actually seems like it might be overkill given that it only needs 1 or 2 mms to clear. Anyone have any experience/suggestions here? I thought about Dremeling the top portion of the rebound knob. Thanks in advance.

    You're running a king headset?

I have the same setup... medium pack with 36 van and I don't think I have the same problem.

Ventana makes both a 3 & 7mm CK race. If you only need 1-2mm then the 3mm would be perfect.

No clearance problem here... CK headset, 36 Van RC2, 05 Medium Pack. Strange...

Maybe it depends on what color medium pack you have...mine's grey and the knob clears just fine.

I've also got a medium Pack with a 36 Van and have no clearance issues either

Edit: that's with a CK headset also.

Granted mine is grey but I checked my clearance and it just BARELY clears the gussett welds on the downtube, maybe 1mm of clearance.

Mine's also the powdercoat grey, and yes I'm running a CK headset

The inconsistency with this is pretty weird.

Just to be specific, the very top of the rebound knob contacts the welds of the downtube gusset. I think the problem may be with the rebound side top cap, as when I look closely it appears that the base of the cap is just slightly taller than the preload side.

Where might I go about getting one of these 3mm King races? From Ventana directly? Or must I undertake an extensive trek, alone and on foot, to a distant land where these special crown races grow as the fruit of a rare plant that only resides in the lava fields of a certain volcano?

Grab a file and give the knob a few passes.

That would definitely be more entertaining.

Why file it when you could just smash it down with a hammer?

Yes. And there you will have to answer these 3 questions:
    What is your name?
    What is your favorite color?
What is the airspeed velocity of a swallow?

Or just call Larry at Mtn High Cyclery.

    Oooooooo, new question (still related)!

To all you folks with the same set up who are not having clearance issues, where is your rebound set?

I run my rebound very fast, but I noticed that if I slow it down (thus depressing the knob), the fork clears the gusset. Just curious if this whole clearance/no clearance thing is actually inconsistant or just a matter of different rebound settings.

Either way, I'll soon be seeking the one they call "Larry," who can allegedly summon fire without flint or kindling.

    Your problem...

...originated when you reinvented yourself with that DUMBASS handle, Doc..

PS I wonder if your headtube was faced a bit too agressively on the bottom?

Either way, bring it by...lemmee have a look at it before you start buying stuff.

Nah, I only run my rebound 2 clicks in from full fast so it isn't that.

Interesting. When I get mine built up, I'll have to look out for that. It's a small though. Wonder if the same issue will be there?

You should call Fox, moan and groan to them, start a big ol flaming post here as to why you think you should have more clearance and that this is such a huge issue they must be in the wrong for not addressing it. Then vow to never use another Fox product again....or just get the 3mm crown race.

This is 5 clicks in from full fast and it just clears, if I run it at full fast it doesn't clear, a file or the spacer as stated above is the way to go.
This is with a FSA orbit headset.

Looking a the pic, I'm not sure what you would file. Looks like the knob's bolt is the first thing that would hit, and you can't very well file that down. Looks like you should send it to Jm and he can do the hammer thing on it.

I'm wondering how the clearance goes under dynamic conditions. I'm thinking a 1-2 mm gap is tiny and surely under dynamic conditions that gap can close.

I think there is enough material on the red knob, so one could
countersink the hole a bit more with a drill bit or dremel, then the
screw would sit lower, and file the top of the knob to get more clearance.

If it makes you feel any better.....
I have no clearance issues with a Pike on my Pack but Darren's slighlty rubs the underside of the downtube as well. Mine is a white medium & his is gray.

Conclusion: White 6-Pack frames are far superior to the gray ones. But we knew that already
