Bonking ... not feelin' well 5 spot vs. 5 pack

Those of you in the know,

Yes, I tried doing a search, however, the dang computer I am using keeps giving me a fatal error. Oh well, on with the show.

I am looking for pros and cons of a 5 pack vs. 5 spot. I ride northeast stuff and want to build up a sturdy trail bike. The med spot seems like the way to go (510/145 #) although the med pack has a more suitable geom. (slightly longer TT and S/T, etc). I would also build them up the same: air shock in the back with 5.3 rockers and an air fork, probably a pike.

I am looking to see how much of a difference in handling from a 5 pack to a 5 spot? Anyone done a side X side with detailed results? Climbing, Descending, Tech Sections, Singletrack, etc?

Seems like it would be almost the same bike just with slightly diff. geom? And of course a little heavier front tri on the pack.

    Thanks for lookin' out.
    It's all cycle-logical to me.
