Great build! Is that a stock rock shox rear shock or did you get it tuned for thge spot?

it is a pushed tuned rock shox monarch plus RC3, been thinking of sending in my 2014 fox 34 since I am due for a service on my shock, looking at the elite tune, maybe next rainy week.......P.S shock transformed the rear of this bike, perfect!

Well, I added a 1.5 Works headset to my '13 Spot, and I have to say this brought my already amazing bike to another level!!! I have a 160 Lyrik u-turn, and I drop the fork down to 140mm for the climbs (I can barely notice a difference), and when it's time to go down, bring the fork to 160 and......... WOW!!!!
    Thanks DT and thanks Works!!

thinking about driving over to turner and picking one of those up, had the monarch since beginning of 2011 and have been curious to see if It would outperform the pushed monarch???? any thoughts from anyone.......

You probally can get a CC Inline significantly cheaper with Bike Bob, think Turner sells the shock at MSRP.
I've been using a DB air since 2012, took a while to tune it, but once set up its pretty darn near a coil. I have had a Pushed Monarch Plus (nice shock), the properly tuned CC beats it all day and twice on Sunday. Can only imagine the Inline has the same performance sans the weight.

    Cheers,

Turner don't have stock at the moment and appear to be having difficulty obtaining supplies from Cane Creek. I ordered a Burner frame with the CCDB inline upgrade direct from Turner 2 months ago, and emailed Tom a couple of days ago to find out what the delay in shipping is - I was told it's because they are still waiting for delivery of the shocks.

His website is out of date. Email him, he is pretty good about getting back to you. He is legit, I've bought CCDBA, KS LEV, and Pikes from him.

sort of, I have a bit of paint rubbed off there, not a dent thoug. I noticed it on the last washing too, my DW link bushings had quite a bit of slop in them too, could be related? how are your pivots?

My pivots cycle as they should and none of them feel sloppy. My little XC 28H DT swiss 350 wheels should look like tacos with that much frame flex though. I would also suspect bottom out damage from my shock but it seems fine! It is more like a crease then a dent.

Sorry, didn't log in for a while. I found the 1pc link to be a huge improvement. Had no idea how floppy the old link was until I switched it. Mostly the back end is a lot stiffer on corners.

Started out as Sangria Red, stripped off the PC to raw, then eventually got tired of it. Off to a new color again:

No real feedback on the shock yet, except it works fine for some easy local trails. More feedback after it is ridden (by my brother) in the SOC Enduro next week

IMO black would work best with the rest of the bike.

Here's my 2010 Spot. It started out life sangria coloured, the finish was looking sorry for itself so had it powdercoated in yellow plus new decals. Recently rebuilt the suspension too including the revised DW link. Would have liked a new Burner, but decided to spend ££ on this instead.

Loser. Just kidding. I have been demoing lots of other bikes and while many are as fun as my old spot, none so far is head and shoulders better (for my location - NE USA- and me).

I'm pretty happy with my Warden, and noticeably faster according to the guys I ride with! I can't seem to get the timing right with Turners; I bought the '10 Spot just before they brought out the revised one with the slacker HA and 12mm rear end, and I ordered my new frame only a couple of months before the RFX appeared.
The one thing I miss is the way the 5spot pedals, I never touched the lock out on the shock but now I'm using it all the time for the logging road climbs (and still trying to remember to unlock it at the top!).

That is the problem with demo's, the bikes are generally not the more boutique brands. Treks, Specialized and Rocky Mountain for the most part.

I am with you with the timing. I purchased a Titus right before they went belly up and my 2011 5-spot right before the move to 27.5.

    Hi

Has anyone tried adding a stealth dropper slot like the burner 3.1 and if so how did it go? Ask as thinking it might be possible to machine a slot into my '13 spot and loose the annoying reverb cable looping next to the rocker

    Many thanks

Not 100% sure. Is the routing that bad?

Its 2016 and now my 5-Spot is 12 years old. Tempted to buy a 27.5 but decided just to upgrade it. Aluminum is more forgiving than Carbon Fiber. Added some Ergons, 26x2.3 tubeless WTB Weirwolfs, Thomson 27.2 dropper, FOX talas Fit 4, Float RP23, converted to 9x2, K-Edge MTB chain catcher, crane creek 110. Location: Monument Peak , Milpitas, Calif.

    Nice refresh of a classic!

Did you entertain drilling a hole in the seat tube to run a stealth dropper as others have done?

That was one of the most iconic bikes ever made. I still have my 1st year medium (loaned to a friend) and a 6" prototype of the 6 pack that I can't part with. I did however try and later adopt the 27.5 wheel with an intense T 275 and a flux, both aluminum. I'm now looking at the new Guerilla gravity pistol, Lynskey summit because they use the horst link and 27.5.

No, the Thomson 27.2 doesn't come in stealth. For now I just reach under my seat and lower it by pressing the lever by hand. Haven't hooked up the remote.

Check out REI Ghost bikes from Germany. They use Horst link.

Just built up a '14 5 Spot large frame that I purchased used, and I punched the holes and filed a slot just like the thread on the Burner.
The Stealth Mod, or drilling holes in your alloy frame

Will try to post pics, soon. I put in the slot a little off center due to some bad drill wander, but I think it is better offset to have the hose better clear the shock. Other routing under the shock has also been done. Just make sure to follow DT's instructions of drilling fairly high up between the rocker braces on the seat tube.

My wife's Flux 3.0 was also drilled like this--it was a demo from Turner's fleet.

I don't know when it was welded nor anodized nor assembled, but technically, it's the 5 Spot V4.2. This model was released in late 2012, from what I can gather. It was sold 2012-2014 from Turner. If you must know particulars: bike frame was purchased directly from Turner in 2014 and built up in the off season to ride in 2015, and then sold to me in Sept of 2016. The Burner V3., the 5-Spot's 140mm travel replacement in the Turner line-up, was released at the end of 2013 for 2014, so you could say my 5 Spot was just a 2012/13 model that was closed-out in 2014. If you want to.

6 years old and still rides like a champ. Went to Pisgah and riding partner rented a Yeti SB5. He loved the bike but when he got on my 5-Spot was amazed at how well it peddled and how playful it was. Still a great bike!

Couldn't resist letting the family get ahead a bit and taking a pic of my 5-spot at Uluru in central Australia the other day... Also gave me a chance to pick up the pace for a minute while catching up colour fits in nicely!

I haven't posted in many moons but this was from my last ride, & i mean literally my last ride on the old 5-Spot.
Spent many a fine hour bashing around in the Australian bush on this once fine machine.

Have you contacted Turner? Was it dented or is it a crease?

That's a crease in the top tube from the downtube fail! I don't think Turner really has much in the way of any Al frames left, and he won't sell any used front triangles that he takes in on trade-in, just the rears. DT will give you $600 toward an RFX, though.

I destroyed my 07 Flux in that very same manner last year. It catalyzed a nice foray into some fun experiences with a Flux V3 (27.5") and a Spot V4.2 . I'd like to now try the last incarnation of the Burner.
