    Trek Y5

Hey everyone, I'm new to the forum, but been lurking around the site for a long time now.
I have a Trek Y5 bike, and i'm not sure if its worth keeping and upgrading components or ditching the bike for a newer hard tail. I've had the Y bike for over 5 years, she's been great to me, but I kinda want to get a hardtail to whiz through trails faster.
Is the frame worth upgrading (maybe replace my fox vanilla rear shock with a lockout rear shock) or should i get a modern design hardtail

Oh i can sell the bike to a friend that wants it and then i'm thinking maybe getting a diamondback response comp, because I can get one for just under $500(CAD) taxes in
