    Trek Scratch cracked chainstays

It's a common problem and Trek is aware of it. 3 yr. warranty on chainstays.

The new and improved chainstays are similar to the ones that come on the Slash. No welded bosses on the drive side where the cracks begin. I love my Scratch. It's a good bike.

I wonder if these cracks are due more to shear stress... Which would make the issue less about big drops and more about the torque/torsion acting through the swing arm from the BB and rear axle. Basically the wheel's imparting a twisting force that's tearing open the swing arm.

And another one fixed with revised chainstay.
