    Trek care plus

Just wondering if anyone has opted for the trek care plus coverage? Is it worth the money?

I've used the Trek Red Shield warranty a bunch, which is now called Trek Care Plus. In the three years I've had my bike, I've got my money back and then some. Chains, cassettes, cables, chain rings, etc. are all covered. The beauty of the Trek Care Plus, is it also has crash protection if you damage the bike while riding. Well worth the money if you plan on actually riding your bike.

If you plan in riding alot, it is well worth it. This is what I have had replaced on my bike in the two years I've had my bike,
    1. 2 bottom brackets
    2. set of chainrings
    3. cassette
    4. 2 chains
    5. oil in the fork
    6. cable and housings
    7. rear derailleur
    8. cracked jockey wheel on rear derailleur

all courtesy of Red Shield .

Just keep in mind it only covers the parts that came on the bike from the showroom floor.

    Final Bike Price Suggested MSRP
    $0 - $499.99 $49.99
    $500 - $749.99 $119.99
    $750 $1999.99 $149.99
    $2000 - $6999.99 $359.99
    $7000 - $12999.99 $499.99

It's a 3 year plan that starts the day you purchase. You have 90 days after the purchase of the bike to decide.
Well worth the money if you ask me.

I bought my Remedy last month . And the dealer tossed it in for me. If he didn't I was going to buy it anyway. Its an offer you really cannot pass up.

Ado you know if the pricing of trek care plus is based on the actual price paid for the bike or MSRP? Bike I just bought MSRP is more than $1999 but paying less than that?

Trek care plus pricing is based on the final cost of your new trek bike and starts at $49.99.

The prices are suggested. As a dealer, I can give it away if I want. I do have to pay a wholesale price for each plan I sell. If someone is buying a $2000 plus bike, you can bet I'm going to discount it for them.

Worth every penny, especially if you bought carbon. I was told the only things not covered were seat and tires. I've had my EX 9.8 for a month now and after a tipover against a rock, the rear derailleur was bent. Ended up replacing it with an XTR vice the factory XT since that was all they had in stock.

Trek Care Plus is not offered now (since September 29th, 2014).

Apparently they're losing a ton of money on the plans, and are re-evaluating the coverages.

I don't think Trek is the one who pays on this. I believe it is a third party company.

    Nevertheless, interesting....

It may be managed by someone else, but you can bet that Trek was paying for every part replaced in one way or another. Even if they simply provided the parts "free of charge", that is a loss of their cost for the product regardless of whether it was one of their products or something from Shimano, SRAM, etc.

As they say, "there is no free lunch".

    Trek care plus

It's a third party insurance company. Glad I'm still grandfathered in, busted a wheelset on my Fuel.

They are cancelling it due to the amount of free stuff I got from it . 4 BB's, 5 chains, 3 cassettes, set of chainrings when I had 3x10, 2 sets of shifter cables, shifter housing, rear derailleur, and oil change for the dual air reba. I still have 2 years left of coverage and need a new chain soon .
