Trek 3900 frame? Can I rebuild her?

My brother was about to toss what was left of his son's Trek 3900 in the dumpster.

Frame looks OK, but nothing parts-wise is salvagable.

Is it worth keeping the frame and rebuilding her?

I have little knowledge of bikes, but was thinking how it would be nice to replace my tired old Schwin

I do mostly bike on the road for cardio.

I do some hunting and could keep the Schwin for trails/hunting or vice vera.

The Schwin needs some work as well... but I did not want to toss out the Trek Frame.

    Any ideas and advice appreciated?

Can you, sure. Should you? Only if you like burning money. The frames at that level aren't really worth very much and are a small part of the equation. If you get the same quality level parts it came with, or if you source used higher level stuff, it will cost more to rebuild than to just buy a new one. And used parts of the stock 3900 level will be not worth the effort.
Worked at Trek/Fisher dealer 2008-2013. Only a little biased.

Thank you for taking the time to answer my question.

I will go in a different direction...
