Paris - I ride in a hard Park, and with decent leg strength the 30T front and 36 rear only makes a few climbs hard. I used to ride a lot of my local park in a 36T front. You can always add a 38-41T big ring on the cassette there are various ways to do a poor man's XX1. Some cranks can accept Wolftooths 28T front as well....

Just picked this up on Friday:

    '14 X Caliber 6

I waited and waited and waited for a good deal on Criagslist and couldn't wait anymore so I just got a new one. I'll mainly use it as my daily commuter but I'm hoping to get some more trail time in the near future.

Really wish I didn't have to study mechanics of solids all weekend so I could go for a ride. I'll probably just have to wait until my Monday morning ride to school to test her out.

I have had the pleasure of replacing both my summer and Winter rides this year... I bought the 29er Fuel Ex 5 about 6 weeks ago, and today picked up my new X-Cal 5 just in time to avoid riding the Fuel in proper Swiss winter time!

Mods to be done this weekend for the X-Cal: XC32 fork (done), SLX675 brakes, 180mm Rotor f/b, Maxxis Ardent tyres on Shimano MT-66 wheels.

In August I started riding again for health reasons after a 15+ year hiatus. Since then I started to tackle trails and got hooked on non-paved surfaces. I was riding a 1992 Specialized Rockhopper modified with a Trek front shock and some Deore XT gear.

Last week I picked up a brand new 2014 Trek Superfly FS 9 (and a FS 6 for my wife). My only mod so far was to replace the stock grips with a pair of Lizard Skins Northshore Lock-on grips. It came with Bontrager XR1 Team Issue tires, but I may think about replacing those with something that handles a little better for Autumn riding. It also has the Shimano XT M785 pedals.

The picture below shows it in stock form just before my first ride around the local city park. I have since added the grips I mentioned, and changed the stem back to the original stem, a white Bontrager RXL 100mm/7

I will post pics of my baby as soon I get my rigid carbon fork installed. 2012 Superfly Comp frame, singlespeed (32*17 is my go to gear courtesy of a Paul Melvin tensioner). XTR cranks/pedals, Mavic Crossmax SLR wheels, tubeless GEAX Saguaro 2.2 fr/AKA 2.2 rr. Easton EC90 zero offset post, Selle Italia SLR Flow saddle, Bont XXX carbon risers and alu RXL stem with Specialized ergo bar ends ( likely swapping all of those to EC90 when I do the fork this month). Avid Juicy Ultimate brakes (swapping to XT when they need service). Should end up about 18-19lbs when the dust settles.
    Have at it!

I actually own a 19" 2009 Gary Fisher Rig in the root beer color.
    I love it!!
So much in fact that I'm looking to buy another 19" 2009 frame in the same color and make it into a 1x9.
Does anyone out there want to part out their Rig and let me give new life to it in geared format?
I know there are a ton of them floating around out there so someone must be ready to get a new frame and be ready to let go of one??
Out with the old --- in with the new right??
PM me or text me at six-three-ooh-926-too-two-zero-4

    Thanks!

    1x10 conversion complete

Test ride after my 1x10 conversion. 30t up front and the stock 11-36 in the rear.

    Trek 29er's roll call-img_20131111_142032.jpg

It was a success. No dropped chains and minimal chain slap. No guide needed at all.

    30t raceface ring
x9 type 2 short cage rear derailleur

I'd like to upgrade the brakes eventually but everything else is pretty much stock. Just added some wider bars and lockon grips and that's it.

What do you figure your weight savings was with your 1x10 conversion? I still have the stock triple and cogset on my 2013 Mamba, but I'm never in the small ring. Was considering a switch to either a double or single ring crank.

Weight? I dunno, I guess I should have weighed everything out before installing.

    But let's see:

    Removed:
    Triple ring setup (heavy)
    Front derailleur (not so heavy)
Some cabling and front shifter (not so heavy)
2 or 3 links in the chain?
    X7 long cage? rear derailleur

    Added:
    30t ring (light)
    X9 short cage rear derailleur

I would think the biggest weight savings would be the three rings. So whatever those weigh.

My net weight loss going from 2x10 to 1x10 was about 350 gr. (i.e. 3/4 lb.). That's with Deore XT components.

    Trek 29er's roll call

    2012 x-caliber (Large/19") purchased in summer of '12

    Upgrades:

Drivetrain (2x10), brakes, and pedals are Shimano XT

Stock Rockshox Reba fork was rebuilt and set for me

    Saddle: WTB Rocket V

Thomson Carbon XC bar with Lizard Skin Peaty lock-on grips (most recent upgrade).

Went tubeless shortly after buying the x-cal. Running Maxxis Ardent 29x2.25 front and rear on stock wheels. Also run a Maxxis Icon 29x2.20 on the rear in dry conditions.

Next planned upgrades are stem, seatpost, and wheels. All stock for now.

If anyone has any recommendations please don't hesitate to chime in.

For a seatpost I highly recommend the Raceface Turbine, or for a little less $, the Raceface Evolve.
