The LBS had a great closeout on a 2012 Superfly 100 Al, so I joined "the cult". I got hooked when I rode a friends Cannondale hardtail 29er. Just love the smooth rolling. I really don't understand why, but it climbs much better then my 2009 Anthem 1 did.

Proud owner of a spanking new 2013 rumblefish.

I have been sold on the 29rs for a while and knew the standard list of "29s are better because yada yada yada".

There was a very nice surprise not on that list the 29 advocates preach. Im a big boy, 6'2" 220lbs, this is the first bike i have ridden that i feel like im down in the cockpit, not way up over the wheels. It took me a couple tries to get the front wheel off the ground for a wheelie, the longer wheel base was far more dramatic than i had imagined. When doing tight switchback climbs (an area i was afraid the bigger tires would make more difficult) the front tire actually sticks to the ground and reduces the technical factor by a lot.

That longer wheelbase was listed by some as a disadvantage in tight conditions. Perhaps this is a nod to trek's engineering and geometry, but i have found more benefits than disadvantages in the bikes handling characteristics.

    Im in love.

    29r for life.

... and if we just ... Looking at FS

Haven't posted in awhile, maybe never on this thread.. anyway, I have an '11 X-Cal, really like the bike overall, minus the brakes maybe. Have done a few things here and there, no drivetrain change outs or anything too major. Got a carbon fiber Niner seatpost for Xmas, reading a MB Action test listing it as a must have if you have back pain, almost (not quite) acting as suspension.

Brings me to my point. I'm considering getting my second bike, a FS 29er. Full disclosure, I'm looking at other brands too! I'm a Trek homer, but I have to consider along with the Rumble Elite, the Specialized FSR Stumpy Comp $3k, and the Giant Trance X 29er1, $2775.

All seem like good bikes, honestly Giant specs their's better for the money (dropper post even), great tires, etc. From a looks standpoint, I really wish Trek would start smoothing out their welds in the $3k range. For that money, those look downright ugly by comparison. Just sayin'..

Anyway, if anyone has a comparison opinion, love to hear it! My Bro got a '12 Rumble and loves it. Thanks folks!

Nice orange Mambas on this page. I'm not used to seeing them in color.
You can find me in the woods -- playing in the dirt and mud -- on my 2013 Trek Mamba -- or in my 1984 Chevrolet K10.

Now that I upgraded the fork to a Fox Evolution CDT on my 2011 Marlin it rode real nice on some new tires too Ground CTL front, and Captain in the back. (need to take some photos)
Any advice what to upgrade next thats worth it and not too pricey hence the fork set me back 800 bux more than the whole bike :-)
    Got OURY lock on grips
    Primo Super Tenderizer Pedal (Black)
What do different skewers do? Or should I upgrade the X4 to a X7 perhaps?
One problem I seem to have is a crackling noise in the crankset, no matter what is all tightened down it never really goes away, is that worth a upgrade the crankset and bottom bracket?
    Any advice thanks

The oranges on the bike look red in this photo which makes me think it would be cool if they had a red version.

For some reason I thought it was a Mamba. Marlin... Mamba... too similar.

I just bought a trek mamba about a month ago, orange/black, and my handle bars came in black, not orange. I really like the orange handle bars

I think that is worth it. I went with an external BB on my Marlin. The deore cranks stiffened things up quite a bit over the stock cranks. Stem and Handlebar were a nice upgrade also. I went with Crank Bros Iodine 2 stem and Bonty Race Lite handlebar.
