Rear shock for 2006 Trek Fuel EX7

I have a 2006 Trek Fuel EX7 on which I put a Rock Shox Revelation fork to add travel due to aggressive riding . I was wondering if it is possible to fit a rear shock with more travel than the Rock Shox MC3.3.

I think the pivot linkage would hit the seat tube so there's not much of a benefit to installing a rear shock w/more travel.

The travel is limited by the frame linkage and geometry, not by the shock itself. Frames are designed to fit a certain sized shock, usually one with a 2 inch stroke. I couldn't tell you with 100% certainty what would happen if you put a longer stroke shock in there, but most likely nothing good, and possible bad things.

where does this idea come from that a shock swap can change the length of travel on the bike?

I see it all the time on these forums.

OKAY.. So basically if I want more travel, I have to change the bike
