    Need help with frame size??

My brother has his heart set on a Trek 4300 with disc breaks. His high school graduation is next week and this will be his present from my parents. I'd like to pick it up as soon as possible and have it waiting for him when he gets home from work. What is the best frame size to get for him? He's 5'6 3/4 and weighs 125 pounds. The bike is available in 16" and 18". Is it better to go bigger or small or is it all preference? The bike can be found here:

    Thank you

18" seems a bit big for him. i am 5'6 1/2 with a 30.5" inseam, and i ride a 15.5" Fuel with a 110 mm stem. I have about 1.5" of standover clearance and a nice long stretch to the bars. I think standover clearance is the most important criteria, top tube length second.

Since it is a gift, maybe the bike shop will agree to accept a trade from one size to the other (after you buy the bike, but before your brother actually rides it outside)?
